Happened to me quite a lot in college... I'd usually end up dating them for a while as I couldnt bring myself to disappoint them by turning them down (unless they really were awful!) and then stage a break up a couple of weeks later (usually in the heat of a one sided argument) .... Not the best way of dealing with it I grant you but at the time I thought I was being kinder, in retrospect I was just being cowardly.
