i think graffetti is art, but dude. putting it on someones house is just plain disrespectful, and rude. so if you want to do it, do it on your own place. not everyone wants to see that.
Real graff, includes staying away from, and never writing on cars, vehicles, houses, and the like.. Way better spots to hit anyways. Who the hell tags homes?
some graffiti is very beautiful, but i also think you should keep it on your own property if you're really a graffiti artist. when we first got our new house, overnight someone spraypainted the front of it, and it was just awful to see something worked hard for being defaced for someone's random urge to write on something that isn't theirs.
I think it's art and vandalism. I also think the beauty of it is that it gets taken down so fast ya know. Kinda like people who make sand castle or ice sculptures it's not meant to last.
The type of messy, black, tagging graffiti that you see spraypainted on walls and trains is certainly not art. That's just a dumb kid's attempt at either being rebellious or substituting for a small downstairs area. As for proper graffiti, that most certainly is art. It can be used very powerfully politically and it can bring social issues into the spotlight. Other than that, it can just be pretty Even the really well coloured tags can look great.
Graffiti is just another form of art, but art is a general term. It's all very subjective, just like any form of expression. It's canvas can deem it as vandalism, it's picture could represent an inflated ego, or a threatening message. John Mayer's "Waiting on the World to Change," music video is a representation of a more traditional approach to graffiti.
Graffiti is art, but that doesn't mean that it's OK to put it on property that isn't your own. What if I wanted to draw a cool picture of a dog chasing a cat....all over the front of some poor bastard's office? Shit like that costs business owners money each and every day for removal. Money that they need for any number of things, especially if they're not rich. In that sense, it's destructive.
First off, I personally think that pretty much everything is art in many ways, but yeah I love graffiti. Who cares if it's "vandalism"? It's not right to vandalize people property, but right or wrong has nothing to do with art. A lot of the time it looks extremely cool, and I love those skate parks that let you paint all over them. That is fucking awesome. Also, for those of you who think art needs to be showcased, what if someone makes art and never feels the need to show it to anyone? Just because no one saw it but the artist, does that make it not art? (haha, that sounds kind of like "if a tree falls in the woods...")
Yeah, I think you're right. I guess there has to be some sort of line, and I didn't see the post before talking about "Kevins a Faggit" I wouldn't consider that art. BUT most of the graffiti I've seen has some care put into it, so I'd say that is art. The only problem is, there's accidental art too. So I don't know where to draw the line .
i think it depends on what the message is. in some cases, yes it is definately art but if you're just telling people to fuck off, i dont really think theres anything behind that.
