'Real People' wasn't too bad as a reality show. It was on the air around 1980. They went around the country covering light-hearted humorous events. At least something happened during the show, as opposed to putting a camera on some people sitting on the sofa with nothing ever happening. They had to spend some money traveling to various parts of the country to cover the stories. It was similar to the 1950's reality show 'People Are Funny'.

Candid Camera was another reality show that was pretty good. Alan Fundt's son was doing his own candid camera show a few years back.

Must be great to be a TV network producer today. Nothing to write, direct, produce.

The 70s were pretty much the end of the era for the locally produced entertainment TV shows. After that, everything turned to cheap cookie-cutter syndicated garbage. It's a quick and easy profit compared with generating a unique locally produced show.

Most adults do not continue their pursuit of a well rounded education once they leave high school or college. In the case of a 5th grader, all that general knowledge is still fresh in their minds, not shoved to the back.

In that case, we should have a fifth grader as President. :)

granted, it has been a while since these people have been in school...but yeesh! The only things i didn't know when I watched that show was some of the american history stuff since I never did learn any of it. Like which president's name is most common...that one I will admitt, I did not know.
but some of the things on there are just plain mind boggling. Leave it to an american show to point out the stupidity of it's citizens. It's showing the world that americans are proud to be stupid, and that the people working some of the most important jobs are complete retards.

    Like I said, it's staged.

staged or not...the fact that there is a show bragging about the stupidity of it's counrty's citizens is just downright sad.

people are really shitty with geography by and large (ask random people what country is to the north, and you'll be lucky to get 1/2 correct).

Yeah, and that's assuming they don't ask "Which way is north?"

I'm lucky, I have a grandson in the 5 th grade, he still thinks grandpa can answer his questions and is the best fisherman he knows.
Things will change in a couple of years, I wont know shit and he'll wonder how I got along all these years without his guidance.
