Maybe i should have said that toxic_OJ comment was blindingly americentric ... although i probaly agree with some of his/her views saying thanks guys is so patronising ... i bet they said that after WW2.

I was just leveling it up with the thought that all the nations involved have done their own fair share and that we are not merely helping the americans out..but i did not want to get off on the wrong foot with toxic_OJi guess .

People that share the threads point of view can say whatever within this thread..it is you who should not realy be posting within it, if the thread offends..but i do the same sometimes so i can see why you both pitched in.

too answer you both then. America has done the same as we have done for it, been a suportive influential partner in this struggle .

It is worth it 'at the end of the day' . I don't mean to detract from the fact that innocent lives are being lost..if you want to get into that one fine.

 

If you're part of the global elite, then I can understand why you support our action in the Middle East. Although it is indeed wrong, I can understand why you support it... I mean, if you're part of the global elite, you can only gain from all of this. However, if you are not part of the global elite, then you have NO reason to support the war in Iraq.

If somebody were to post a thread suggesting that it is perfectly acceptable for a soldier to shoot dead kids armed only with stones, by your logic I would not have a right to post in the thread and point out how offensive, disgusting and just plain wrong this viewpoint is. I am frequently told i am derailing threads because i am not following the thread or i am saying something off topic..the guidlines are a bit hazy but i try and take note when people warn me.

I realise this is 'your' forum not 'ours' but gee whiz give it a break why don't you. debate away ..don't just say my thoughts are disgusting .. I tried to answer you ... yeah i know what you mean about banging your head against a brick wall, i frequently do. I have read plenty of 'disgusting' thoughts from some of you guys as well .

Some one did , not myself .. but someone did i think. I don't think they quite put it like that , but that is how it got reduced. It is funny because the concept of kids with rocks is a reality and is almost a iconic reference in that particular debate...i saw a documentary about it ..

Which is quite a different thing than telling people not to go off topic. You clearly suggest that people who do not share the point of view of the original poster should not be posting in the thread.

Some of the things you have posted are so callous and ill-informed that I find them disgusting, and I will keep pointing them out as long as you keep posting callous, offensive, ill-informed things which disgust me.

And by the way this is a privately owned website with subscribers, so technically it's Skip's forum, neither "mine" nor "ours".

Of course I'm listening ... if I respond to something it means I have read it and thought about it. It's not as if I dismiss everything you say as "disgusting" ... in fact I think I've done that twice. There's a difference between being open to ideas and tolerating the kind of things you have said on those occasions though. The callousness inherent in the statement that killing hundreds of thousands of people is "worth it" or the suggestion that innocent civilians deserve to die in Fallujah if they stay in their homes due to guilt by association with the Iraqi resistance.... these are disgusting things to say. And I think you need telling.

Right, so .. you think adding "at the end of the day" to the sentence makes it better? If so, you are so out of touch with the reality of the situation that your callousness when talking about it is plainly an indication of nothing less than sheer ignorance.

 

By the way I am very critical of the handling of the Iraqi crisis by George Bush and Tony Blair. The only way to ensure peace and security in Iraq is to send more troops and to persuade other countries to send troops to Iraq aswell as peace keepers. The sooner they do that the sooner the Iraqi crisis will be ended and all the troops can be brought home.

 

Actually we could treat this like the Russian Revolution ... send all of our remaining military off to war in a foreign land and meanwhile us lot all slip into parliament unchallenged.

 

My answer was brief , because that was not the thrust of my post.. i highlighted the fact that if you/anyone wished for me to carry on that point or explain , that was fine.

You extrapilated far to much from 'It is worth it' , if you had bothered just to ask rather than jumping to conclusions on what i think. You would still have considered me callous and ignorant HOWEVER I EXPRESSED MYSELF imho . I was as brief in my thoughts as the original poster... i was answering a simple question with a simple answer

Though i am still saying 'it is worth it' it is in no way meant in anyway callous or ignorant way , it just my point of view put very simply.

 

I am not saying that the USA and Britain should shoulder all of the burden in Iraq but that troops levels should be massively increased there with the help of other western and arab countries. Britain would only need to send another 20,000 troops at the most and America perhaps 40,000 more. The rest would come from other NATO and arab countries.

Oh and if you did take over Parliament your new libertarian regime wouldn't last long as you would give in to the forces of Islamo-fascism without a fight. I though for minute on you mentioning the Russian revolution you were going to say something sensible like we could learn from the way the Russian revolutionaries beat the White army with their war communism campaign where they mobilised a massive army, adopting the same tactics for Iraq.

In fact Iraq is in a very similar position to Russia just after the revolution with democratic forces facing the evil forces of Islamo-fascism. Only in the warped logic of the anti-war movement because America and Britain are backing the side of democracy this time then they must be wrong.

No to support democracy! Iraq is in a state of civil war where on one side are the forces of democracy and the other those of Islamo-fascism! If we pull out of Iraq now then the Islamo-fascists will win. Capitalism has got fuck all to do with it as the Islamic extremists are capitalists themsleves. So its not a case of capitalism versus Islam but democracy versus Islamic totalitarianism.
