I think it's best to keep away from the whole 'you're a goth, i'm a hippy' thing. It just encourages prejudices in people. I'm friends with pretty much every scene around here, and they're all just as lovely people.
Goths/Punks/Hippys/Skaters/Grungers...whatever, underneath the fashion, we're all pretty similar and we're all living a more alternative way of life so why not all support each other and get along? :)

Oo...but to answer your question! Nah, I wouldn't label myself a hippy. I am just myself. Although...Label me a leftie wanker if ya want, but I'll still be the same person i am now! teehee. :p

I think you are all missing the point.

In the 60's there was the look of the hippy but surely it still prevails in a 'state of mind' your values in life etc

A sense of belonging or association to a particluar group and the hippies were 'Love and Peace Man' which was a wonderful time be around in. A feeling of ' it is going to change' prevailed across the world and things did happen.

    Bring it back..

Yes, but the point being made is that to dress up as a hippy and listen to 60s and 70s music nowadays is to play pretend. Dressing up in the period costume of another age, listening to the folk music of a dead era. At the same time, hippyness as you say is indeed a state of mind, an unwillingness to accept the status quo and a desire to change things for the better. That is still relevant and important. But all the rest is nothing more than fashion and as such I can't help but see it as rather shallow.

    I agree...

but I still do like to wear flowery clothes and beads n stuff sometimes... and I love psychedelic music from the 60's and 70's punk too.

It's not fashion, its just what I like.

I have my flowery bikini on right now:eek:

    Love Clairexxx

While this may be true of some, you also need to remember that there are many people who dress in 60s style clothes because that's the mode of dress that they feel comfortable in, and there are many people who listen to 60s/70s music because that's the music they like.

calling myself a hippie implies i put forward some sort of image...i am just myself, i act and do as i wish to, i judge my own actions, i do not need others judgements...but those other judgements would probably answer your question better.

I totally agree, I wear tie-dye because I feel comfortable wearing it, I go barefoot when the mood takes me because I like to feel the grass between my toes, and I have always been a huge fan of 60's and 70's music....

The thing I dont understand is...if you are on these forums and dont concider yourselve the least bit hip then why be here?
Ive heard people say "Ime not a hippy, I dont like the music or anything"...so why are you here? there are millions of forums for millions of interests, so why would someone just think "ohhh hippy forum..join?...think I will"...

Ime not saying all non-hip folk should piss off, ime just saying that if your not into it and arent interested in any part of it then why are you here??? Theres got to be some kind of interest there.....

And on a serious "jerry springers final thought" type thing, Ime glad my friends refer to me as "the hippy" because its who I see myself as being, I see myself as a long haired "freak", and I listen to 60's/70's rock/folk because it fucking rocks...and if people are gonna get in our ways because we have long hair and tie-dye t-shirts then thats their problems, its just a shame that people think that us hippies smoke dope all day....I mean they wouldnt be far from the truth...ey guys?[IMG]....

But seriously...we like our stuff, other people like their stuff, and other people like there stuff....the important thing is that we are happy being who and what we are[IMG]

    Peace out xx

Why? If I say "I am a man", it doesn't put forward an image - it's just shorthand for explaining that I have a dick etc.
