Iraq oil in the 90's is hard to chart or know since they had the oil for food imbargo.

It was a chart showing low prices in the 90's and production slowly rising and prices really spiking after 2002.

I hope I am reading this correctly...
OPEC's oil production (which includes Iraq) has been fairly consistent pre and post 2002-3.
If Iraqi oil stops, or slows, OPEC just releases more from elsewhere.
    Regardless, the prices still rose.
I think the only fair thing to do is transpose all the major events over the last couple of decades onto a chart.
Imho, you'll probably find Iraq had very little baring.
I really do think it is increased consumption/production that has increased prices more than anything else.

Oil price per barrel is driven by speculation, there is no supply and demand involved. And yes, OPEC always makes sure the same "amount" is available regardless of which one of their group nations is delivering at the time.

Aside from the blip in 2007/8 all 3 were seemingly following similar paths - it seems to have all go horribly off script now, though. .

Whats with the price drop right after Obamas first election at the end of 08?
Look at the rise from May 07 to Sept 07. Gas prices doubled, stocks crashed, and the foreclures took off.

If the last couple of years isnt a warning of the risk to the US and world economy of big oils hold over us then what is?
We're on the right track mandating cars get better MPG but still use way to much oil in our daily lives. Natural gas vehicles would be a good way, in the short term, to lesson oil dependancy. Light rail would be good for mass transportation but all the tracks around here have been pulled up and turned into walking trails.

Oil is the least of our worries. New Scientist of 17th Nov' is carrying a series of articles titled :-"CLIMATE CHANGE:FIVE YEARS AGO WE FEARED THE WORST: BUT IT'S LOOKING EVEN WORSE THAN THAT.
    Be very afraid.

Nothing to do with Obama's election - more to do with the world wide economic collapse.

    What warning is that?
You are ignoring the fact that dependence on middle-eastern oil in the US is going down, oil imports are going down and it's not the US or UK you have to worry about anymore.

Seriously people, this discussion is about as important as debating the colour of the iceberg that sank the Titanic. The entire planet is committing climate suicide and you're worried about the cost of driving your cars?

Seriously, the thread is not about climate change.
