    yeah, how many people you know actually realize what power the Patriot Act has given the government over our personal lives? It affects us all, and it's not catching any terrorists!!

    in what ways?

    i think when people classify others as hippies now it is because they remind them of those from the actual hippie movement. Thats why my family has always called me a hippie (and ive grown to realize i can actually relate to other 'hippies): i remind them SO much of my aunt who was the posterchild for the real hippie movement for her entire life. My family swears im her reincarnation or something. anyway;

    So as much as i may not consider myself a hippie i can relate to many ideals and some of the lifestyles of the hippie movement

    theres also the group that listen to phish, smoke some pot and put on a hemp choker and consider themselves hippies.

    some modern-day-hippies are very similar to old-hippies. some just like the title.

    All you have to do is spend a little time in a town full of "new hippies", such as Eugene, Or, and you realize that for the most part it is just a fashion trend that has lasted for a long time. Get some dreads, tie-dye, nappy pants, and you are good to go. There is still the whole range of people, from cool to a-hole. And that is what some people forget. The uniform itself doesn't magically make someone laid-back and peaceful.

    In my experience as far as males are concerned. The older male tends to be a lot more reserved. You oldies were the "love" generation. This new generation in my opinion is a violence based one. Whats cool now is to be irrational and violent as it earns you respect on the streets. We are trying so hard to emulate what we know, and we didnt grow up in the flower generation. When we grew up we were surrounded by the Terminator, Columbine high school, Grand Theft Auto, Death Metal, the WAR on terror, gangster rap, Rodney King, and not to mention countless extremely distructive student riots all across america. We have taken "immorality" and took it too the next level. Its not to say they didnt have bad boys back in the 60s. Just look at the mafias as an example. Jimmy the Gent, Tommy Desimone and not to mention John Gotti and Vinny the Chin became a testiment to us. Violence has become acceptable and in fact glorifyed. There are many in my circle that choose life by the gun, and accept that they may die by it. There is in my opinion just as large of a gap if not larger between our generations as there was for the old hippies with their parents.
