RJC-well said-nothing stays he same. like music, everything is influenced by things before. Wasn't hippie just a term invented by some media guy. I occasionally attend an acoustic jam at a local tea shoppe. It's full of those folks that have probably been spawned by the beats, the hippies, the rest. Some nights it feels like going back to my teens, my coffee shops, my bars . and never a whif of herb. Remarkable

In my opinion, every generation needs its' hippies.
I think there will always be some sort of counterculture movement,
because not all 8 billion people in the world are going to follow a
mainstream culture. I believe that there will always be some hippies.

And no group has ever represented the counterculture better than the hippies did, which is why hippies are past, present and future.

It occurs to me, next year we'll observe the 50th anniversary of the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which led to the Vietnam War, which led to the hippie movement. Ain't it funny how the time slips away.

I'm not a text book hippie according to my friends but I'm a hippie none the less. I guess it's a matter on the literal definition of the word.

Yeah, in a few years most of us '60-'70 hippies will be gone soon. A lot of seniors will be of the hippie generation.

My parents didn't even know they were hippies. Thanks to the media, they thought being a hippie ment drugs, laziness, long hair & un-washed bodies. There have always been hippies& always will be. Though they may have went by different names, we have always been here. A group of collective souls, wafting through the universe, we are the beginning & the end. Being hip is a way of life, an attitude denoting equality, a love & respect for ALL life. It's about a certain feel, not a look. There is no prejudice, only acceptance. Yeah, I miss the the old school dress of the 60's & 70's, but that's not what makes up hip...... it just makes us cute! Smokin' & Tokin' & smart assed jokin'. That's me, & I'm an old hippie! PEACE TO THE PEOPLE !

Oh, & one more thing. Most of us keep it on the down low. Guess you could say we've learned from the past. We've seen/experienced too much discrimination to put our shit out on the street, so you could say we're an underground movement. So if anyone is looking for us by our lingo, mode of dress, etc. that's not how you'll find us. Even we change with the time to some extent. You'll find us by listening for the message in what we say. Are you hearing, non-judgemental? Freedom of choice as long as that choice does no harm? How about giving those who are down a second, third or fourth chance? Well if that's what you're hearing, you may have found a hippie. :sunny:

I am as important to myself as I ever was.

As long as we are here, we are at least witnesses. Maybe one day we will be called on to testify. If so, then then those establishment MFs are going to be in deep shit.

I would like to say no, but our culture is becoming more modern, and I think it is something that is fading out. Hopefully not, though :)
