just to let you know barefooting is socially acceptable in New Zealand. Many of the mums I socialise with are keen barefooters and got give a shit about any comments they get- not that they get many. It essential you just keep challenging the norms, dont accept any fucking shoe policy!
I am a 100% barefoot mum here in NZ, never had any issues at all, except my fucking mother in law, who I ignore anyway!

I think now that minimalist running is the latest rage and people are exploring the benefits of running barefoot, the sky is the limit. I've started to notice some stores are abandoning the no shoes, no shirts, no service signs on their doors.

I had a neighbor almost thirty-five years ago who used to get grief from other neighbors for her her choice to breast-feed her children outside her home. Fast forward thirty-five years later and if one is foolish enough to complain about someone nursing in public they are most likely to find their mug on the front page of the local papers.

Last summer I had a painful bout of plantar fasciitis courtesy of a cheap pair of dress shoes I purchased on the internet. There is no way I would have recovered as quickly as I did if I continued to wear shoes. Now I wouldn't hesitate to encourage anyone who is recovering from such a debilitating injury to scrap the shoes and go barefoot on the more forgiving surfaces.

Does it really matter? Even if it was fashionable, someone would dislike it, just like there are those of us who dislike shoes.
