I love guns. I'm NRA and have friends in the NRA. I own a 12 gauge Remington, a 12 Browning, .300 Winchester, and a soviet made .410 from the 60s.
Moore did not get a gun for just opening a bank account, yes, it was part of the banks promotion, but what it doesn't show is Moore had to deposit several thousand dollars into an account and do the standard FBI backround check, and the bank themself had a 10 waiting period vs the normal 5 day one, frankly it would've been easier and cheaper and faster to go a gunshop and get a gun, or just the black market.
The drunk kid with the rifle was one of the irresponsible people that caused problems. He picked up a loaded rifle when drunk...sounds irressponsible to me. My shotgun (which I could shoot an intruder w/ blindfolded from over 20 feet) stays put away when I have had any amount of alcohol. Home invasion is a real issue near our nations capital where I live. Home invasion's would certainly double around here if the addicts could be sure I wasn't waiting on them w/ my shotgun. Sorry your friend committed suicide by the way. I've been there and it sucks for all those involved. None the less don't blame the gun. I'm sure he would've figured out another way.
I love guns and always have, but i also think that they are too often used in the wrong ways. But since they are used in the wrong ways, people need to arm themselves to feel safe in there environments. If living in the world could be done without weapons, and i wouldnt have to worry about getting shot for looking at someone the wrong way, then i wouldnt feel the need to have a gun. But so far it is not that way. Preaching peace and love is a great thing, and hippies have to right idea, but for now its just not safe enough out there to not have the means of defending yourself if the occasion calls for it.
i want a gun. only so that if another guy tries to rape me i can blow his brains out... "this is my boomstick!"
Strikes me as being rather too late once the shooting has happened. And ending a sentence on so is a little immature don't you think?
Personally, I am VERY anti gun! They do not do the world any good.....Nothing that is designed for death is good.
Excusing these deaths as irrelevant claiming that they're all gang members I would say is nieve, however in your case i would say it's a case of shutting one's eyes to the facts.
They truly represent dead people. Some are labeled saints, some are labeled gang members.i agree tactics are used by both sides. When the previous poster put forth a site promoting guns ,i simply provided a site negating said site.
I don't need shitty stats or documents or whatever... I mean what are guns use? 1) Kill 2) Hurt and or seriously wound 3) erm... can't find any Sorry but I just wouldn't like to live in a country in wich I know people possess killing tools.
Well that basically excludes.....................everywhere. No offense, but we as a species have had killing tools for tens of thousands of years.
Most old hippies figure out by now you cant keep goverment off with out guns . the flower theory did not go well after the 1970s.
“After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn't do it. I sure as hell wouldn't want to live in a society where the only people allowed guns are the police and the military.” - William S. Burroughs
Hunting for food & protection come to mind. ------------------------------ And cars are just as, if not more dangerous in the wrong hands. More people in this country die from vehicle accidents (drunk driving, falling asleep at the wheel and flat out carelessness) than they do from guns.
To original Hippies... My opinion is that today we have the freedom to do and to be what we want. The problem is that society can get profit on us in so many things in such manner that we cannot realize it so clearly.I think this is the main problem. But instead of set us fully against the society and protest in a such pronounced manner against GOVERNAMENTS, LAWS, STATES, POLITICIANS, i'm sure there are others clever manners to get profit on this for our selves. If someone is well informed, knows how things go in the world, he can as well exclude his self from the rest of the common people. I can work, I can eat, I can use my spare time, I can love nature but still being "part of the society" only from the external point of view of the rest of people. But does it really matter? For war and capitalism actions I fully agree to what you did in the 60's for Vietnam, but did that really change something? And last question..Why in the 60's everything came out suddently at the same time ..MUSIC,DROGS,BEING PRIMITIVE,BEING ARTIST,PROTEST,GO AGAINST EVERYTHING...and why all this in so radical manner ??
