Which brings up a great discussion topic: What do you consider to be art? And what do you consider to be porn? Where do you draw the line?
It's not a discussion topic, it's a definition. The online Merriam-Webster dictionary defines pornography as "the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement." End of discussion. Well I dunno, I suppose you could say that a nude photo of a woman who appears to all intents and purposes to be writhing in sexual ecstasy could meet the criterion of "erotic behavior." But just basic revealing sexy nude poses? Nope - no erotic behavior, therefore not pornography.
Personally, I think it harms women in the way that they are viewed by society as sex objects... but that is my opinion. Anyway, I think a private company has the right to decide what they want to have or not to have. If for some reason my local grocery store decided they they really dislike peaches and feel that they can no longer sell them, I wouldn't have a problem with that either. There are so many more important things happening in the world than anything to do with Playboy.
Anyone who thinks porn isn't nude pictures doesn't remember masturbating before the internet. Sexual acts normally differentiate the line between softcore and hardcore porn.
Please note my quote from the Merriam-Webster online dictionary in my later post. I'm not stating my opinion, I'm just going by the definition of the word. I was masturbating to Playboy pictures before your parents were even born, I'll wager.
It's not society, it's biology. If you object, take it up with God, nature, or the process of biological evolution, whichever suits your personal belief system... A private company only has that right unless we as a society deem it better for the public good to limit that right. That's just YOUR opinion.
But webster defined it as By their definition it doesn't even need to be anything visual as long it's elicits sexual arousal.
It's the same as the Merriam-Webster definition, and both definitions specifically require "depiction of erotic behavior" - either in words or pictures.
