I think my parents are renting a villa in italy for their retirement next year, I'll be sure to go visit them Personally,I find a brew,a smoke and a cute Swiss girl on a KTM are all the healing I need.[/QUOTE] haha, I heard that! Your days aren't over yet friend. Youre more than welcome to visit my country - we like visitors!
Seattle to Frisco is scenic, but the real fun starts south of Frisco. This sign tells it all... http://www.flickr.com/photos/dbaron/301057804/ That's like what, 120km in "british" ? :2thumbsup: But like Shiv said, thats some amazing road you have close by. It's such an undertaking to get over there so count your blessings. As for coming over here, this might be an idea for ya... http://www.bikeshareworld.com/
How far on a bike do you usually get in a day on trips? I know the scooter is slow, I've done almost 200 in a day for work maybe a couple of times.
Depends on the mission. A few hundred on up. You wouldn't believe me if I told you how far I've gone in 24 hrs or on one ride.
This is really cool. It's noted for sure. This is also something I'm curious about. This summer is my second summer riding and my first big trip so I'm wondering what's reasonable as to how far I can get in a day.
I had an enduro when I was growing up... loved that thing... I've been wanting to get something lately... anything really... I refuse to go for a drive just to drive in the car... and I really miss it... I keep putting it off as it isn't a 'priority'... but I think it's starting to move up quicker in the list...
It was like that for me too. I've always kinda wanted to do it and kept putting it off, and then last year I just said fuck it and went for it. Funny thing is, I decided to go for it after watching Sons of Anarchy (I don't know if you know what that is, but its a really good show about bikers).
lol, yeah I know what it is, but considering I'd settle for a vespa, I don't think its quite the same... lol It sucks here because you lose at least 5 months for winter...
I agree, and even in the spring and the fall it's not really that much fun because of the cold, but we sure appreciate the hell out of the summer though! That being said, bikes dont have to be THAT expensive. I got mine for 4 G's and its a nice big bike. It's people who are harley snobs that end up broke. No offense to anyone, but you pay for the name alot when it comes to that.
LOL, 4k? You and I disagree on the definition of expensive roflmao... Let me see if I can clear this up... if I come across some wheels that I can put on the road (regardless of name, brand age or color (well, I can buy paint...lol) for a couple of hundred... as in 2 or 300 TOPS! Then I will buy it.. lol
ahhaha don't get me wrong, I'll be paying for that bike for a looooooooong time LOL but yeah maybe a vespa would be good then haha
Well a couple of years back, there was this guy in a town I lived in that had this... I don't know... it was like a modern version of a vespa type thing... he had to have wieghed at least 350lbs if not 4+, and he use to tour around town on that thing and got 80mpg! I should be able to ride one of them and get a hell of a lot better then that... lol
lol, I do have a bit of a fear of what may happen if I actually got out on the road... I know my mind... I crushed the travel spirit in favor of what I am doing here... I don't know if it can handle that temptation... lol
things like this don't help (I know its not bike related, but it is related to what would happen if I get one); (the music, not the political message lol) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAz48SFwKvc"]YouTube - The Road Northwest - Baba Brinkman featuring Smoky Tiger‏
The main thing I can say about riding in the US ,is watch out for the dummies going the opposite direction that will turn left in front of you. Just about every time a motorcycle death is reported in the paper --that's what happened. That's what got me when I rode. Flashing headlights is a good idea. Oregon is a beautifull place to ride, also.
Very very little chance of me crossing the border, but I wouldn't think it would be much different here... I usually try to assume people in other vehicles are trying to kill me... lol
I actually jsut took a look at what you mean by ''what I am doing here''. Cool stuff man! Thats awesome!
It really all depends on how you go about it. If you're out touring, and stop every time you see something you want to check out, hit up a cool diner for lunch, etc... 300-400 in a day is doable. On the other hand if you're trying to make distance, the limit is your butt. I've done a few iron butt rallys and 3 of the solo rides. That's all about miles, not touring and having fun. 2 diff things. Ya, there are several larger displacement scooters that will do highway speeds pretty comfortable. The honda silver wing is one. If you want to just kick back and not deal with gears, and mostly shorter rides or commutes, they're great for that. Both true. And yes, OR has some awesome riding and scenery. And better drivers than cali for the most part. Very good way to look at it. Too funny. That show was filmed in my neighborhood, the bar they hang out in is just down the street from me. This area has a long history of being a biker town. As in the stereotypical biker.
I rode down to Dover today. [circa 110 miles, not exactly epic] Sat on top of the cliffs in the sun munching ice-cream and watching the ferries come in-and-out. I could see France clearly due to good weather, and as I sat there with my feet dangling over the cliff edge, just musing,a bloody great big gull landed on Kermit [my max] and sat there staring at me. We shared the ice-cream cone. Weeell,he had the decency not to crap on my bike,so fair do's. On the ride back I stopped for fuel-and on the other side of the pump was Rod Stewart, filling his car. He was very pleasant to say hello to,not 'Big Time' at all. Then,at the Dartford Tunnel I was waved through without paying by the lady in the kiosk. Three silly little things that made smiling today really easy. [yep,I know it's small time stuff-but I thought I'd share anyway]
