Camping in Johnathon Dickenson park in Florida some years back --I made the mistake of giving a Raccoon some food. Next morning--no kidding--there must have been twenty five waiting outside the door of my trailer when I got up.!! Evidently, they communicate as to the suckers available!!

Nice gardens you-all. Anxious to start our yellow squash patch. Jalapenos , and other house sprouted plants are awaiting warmer weather to be put out.

  6. Been preparing my mothers garden it is in appalachia so on a mountain terraced the garden beds and pulled out a bunch of rocks, still much more to pull out. It's coming together nicely. Also making a raised garden bed should help with rockyness just need to throw compost and leaves into it. Hope to return next year and see the produce and help expand it more.
Already planted garlic which is growing great and got some seeds from the country store, I dont think food stamps payed for them but believe they are a blessing. Pumpkin carrot scallion onions. Some old seeds of sweetpea cotton wheat barley from the state fair years ago, not sure if they're sprouting.
Found some bluejay feathers and certain mushrooms are popping up so it's that time of the season.

Grow your own food is the best, now it seems more important than ever seeing how easily a supply chain can be affected. All these years I have preached this, not many listened.

Late snow 3-4 inches of fresh snow this morning, more to come, in Midwest USA. Will be a late start. Only thing I've done is turn compost pile.

  11. That's still important. What are your plans for this year? Are you having a garden when it warms up?

MoonGoddess, Yes plan sweet corn, tomatoes, pickles, peppers, basic. Last 3 years were disappoints, hope for better weather this year.

  13. Progress seems to be slowing down. We used to work in the garden a few times a week, now it's everyday! I think we are just getting really worn out. I just want to sleep for a week. I keep hoping for rain just so I don't have to go out there but it never comes when they say it will:disappointed:
Lately, I have been burning up old firewood so we can empty the wood rack because it needs to be repaired and so that we can get fresh wood. I also use the ash and coal in the garden.

I am repurposing some things that I didn't want in the house anymore. It's hard to tell just yet but there are ferns planted in there, they are tiny right now though. The moss was growing on my patio, I skimmed it off the concrete so I could line this metal basket and fill it with dirt to make a planter out of it.

If you look close you can see the little sticks dividing some of the beds, showing where I have seeded so far.

All these rock beds being so low was really pissing me off, harder to work in and so repetitive. I decided to add more interest and improve their function by raising some of them. We just finished the first one today. The lovage plants are still in shock from the transplant. I didn't finish mulching because I want to tuck a few annuals in around the edge first. I also want to plant something in between the rocks but I'm not sure what yet.

Wow Goddess, you really are making it into a work of art. Very impressive. Can't wait to see how it ends up.

  18. Thank you! There is still a lot to be done. We have barely even started with the other half of the yard yet, it's still a mess.
