I very rarely watch television. tbh, I now longer even understand how to read the television listings pages. What ARE all these different channels, and do I have them on my set? I haven't the foggiest :mickey:
TV...unless it's a movie or documentary, especially PBS, I very rarely watch. Commercials are the worst, imo. ~~can
Matchbox Awakening - your perception is spot on: the controlled cable TV that is offered now is designed to dumb you down - that's precisely why complete control of the airwaves was confiscated. Frank Zappa wrote a song titled "I'm The Slime" that was released in his album called "Overnight Sensation" in September of 1973. Frank Zappa continually demonstrated an extraordinary insight into trends way ahead of time; particularly relating to the insidious nature of governmental activities; and their ever-increasing infiltration into our personal lives; aimed towards the goal of eventual total control. As the lyrics of the song "I'm The Slime" reveal, he recognized it as long ago as 1973. So far, everything he predicted has come to fruition. One can only deeply regret that he was taken from us prematurely; because he was such a brilliant genius who saw the big picture, and he was one of the very few who had the courage and high moral character to speak out and tell the rest of us about it. I don't think he would mind me putting the lyrics to "I'm The Slime" here for all of you to read, because he said it all, back in 1973. "I'm The Slime" By Frank Zappa "I am gross and perverted, I'm obsessed 'n deranged. I have existed for years, But very little has changed. I am the Tool Of The Government And Industry too.... For I am destined to Rule and Regulate you. I may be vile and pernicious - But you can't look away! I make you think I'm delicious With the stuff that I say. I am the best you can get Have you guessed me - yet? I am the slime oozin' out From your TV set. You will obey me while I lead you; And eat the garbage that I feed you; Until the day that we don't need you - Don't go for help ... no one will heed you! Your mind is totally controlled - It has been stuffed into My Mold And you will do as you are told Until the rights to you are sold. That's right folks, don't touch that dial." ---------------------------------------------------------------- Well, what do you guys think? Did Frank call it, or what? Me, personally; I choose not to have cable TV. I doown a small television with a built-in video tape player - and I do have a video tape collection that I acquired for free from a gentleman through Craigslist. It is an eclectic collection of old classics, music videos like "Delicate Sound of Thunder" by Pink Floyd, comedies, and novel films by people like Orson Welles, Woody Allen, Henry Jaglom, Quentin Tarantino; many more. So, if I feel the desire for video entertainment now & then, I'll select one of the movies and watch it. There is no way I am willing or inclined to pay for cable TV that contains very little intellectual content; but conversely; contains content that is crap that has been purposely designed to dumb me down. I reiterate - Matchbox Awakening is completely 100% correct - he said "it feels like the TV shows dumb him down," because they're supposed to make him feel that way! Does that bother anyone out there? If the reality of that doesn't bother you, then you've been watching too much TV, and they have accomplished their goal with you. If the reality of that does bother you, that's a good thing - you're not gone yet. In that case, don't watch anymore TV, but instead, set yourself to wondering why "they" would want a society that consists of people that are all "dumbed down".
I only follow a couple shows so if I do watch TV it's precisely to "dumb me down," sit down and laugh and relax..
i totally agree with you. i feel that the tv we watch is controlled to keep the people sheeples. i heard somewhere that the modern media is controlled by 7 major companies, its a monopoly. simple economics. life without tv is so much more productive.
I'm Sure I Posted In This Thread Ages Ago, But I'm At The 3 1/2 Year Mark I Think, And As Friends Say, GLEN, You Haven't Missed A Thing... Cheers Glen.
Well, I have Netflix on more than one device, so that might make it not count that I don't watch actual TV. I used to have cable and the ONLY thing we used it for was background noise. Netflix is background noise of my choice and way way cheaper than cable.
Me! And, the funny thing is I have an old TV that`s been sitting in my apartment for 2 years, and I've yet to watch it.
I really don't watch t.v anymore. If and when I do though, I watch Family Guy or The Simpsons. And I don't do drugs.
for economic reasons there is no cablevision in this house and no TV, if I really need to know something, I'll look on the computer thanks Lois
I only have like 3-4 good channels so i watch a show or two a week, but yeah im once i move out i am never going to buy a television set.
