I haven't watched TV since I graduated from high school and moved out of my mother's house. I like some TV shows though (like Jericho, House, Burn Notice) and I just buy them on DVD when they come out and watch it all at once in a row.
Don't actually own a TV...was raised in a TV free house. At the time I thought it was very unfair, but since I grew up I found I wasn't that bothered by it. These days if I want to watch something I torrent it, but I'd be surprised if watched more then three hours of stuff a week.
corporate media is just a cancer survival or even gratification does not in any way require nor depend upon. i haven't owned a television for longer then i've had internet access that i can participate in and contribute to. not saying i don't ever watch odd fun fx things with the sound turned off when it doesn't cost me anything to do so. but i'd still rather have free unlimited internet. and not corporate media websites either.
I like choice, I have Netflix. If I want to watch something I will with no Ads. I have a 32" flatscreen, only hooked to the blueray/internet streamer. No movie, no TV. When it dies, no replacement. TV holds no value in my life, the web...thats another story.
Though I do watch the google box (TV) I try to be selective and when nothing of interest to me is ON, I turn it OFF One can I find get into the habit of turning it on and .. not actually 'watching' it - Bless UTube and radio stations accessible through one's PC, for melodic company
I dont watch tv ,but thats only because i dont have cable. Hah but even if i did i barely watched it there was a few shows i liked.
Eaves, scrogs and of course my friend themnax who defines corporate media is just a cancer survival not saying i don't ever watch odd fun fx things with the sound turned off when it doesn't cost me anything to do so. but i'd still rather have free unlimited internet. and not corporate media websites either. well said J4B aka Razor
put your time and energy into music, not tv. those are my thoughts on this post... didnt read anything but the first post.
I haven't watched TV in over 20 years. I just turned 34 last month. I never really watched it at all, ever. There was one on sometimes in the house when I was a kid but it never was able to hold my interest. Every so often I look at the TV and the people watching it. It seems very strange to me. It's like the people are somehow being modified by it, willingly. If i try to speak I'm told to shssss - as if the talking plastic box is somehow more important or relivant than a real live flesh and blood being. I saw a TV in operation last week. That was the first time in years I had actually seen one in operation and the first thing I noticed was that there was more cursing, nudity, and violence than I had last remembered. Also people mimic the characters they see on TV. TV used to reflect real life, now it's the other way around. I don't understand why it is so desirable to so many people. I never noticed it when I lived in the city but now I live in suburbia and when I take my dog for a walk there is no one outside. I can see all the TVs in the windows of peoples houses and they're all gathered around just staring at it. When I do meet people outside they constantly referance people I've never heard of as I am supposed to know them, and then they act surprised that I don't. They act like there's something wrong with me because I don't know who Seinfeld is. I think TV is gross and unhealthy and people should stay away from it.
thats impressive. SUPPORT LIVE THEATRE THOUGH PEOPLE IT"S A BEAUTIFUL ART FORM. much more raw and real and juicy.... not to mention my career haha but really, television is only so deep. real, live, well-written plays or musicals require a talent a devotion and a fearlessness that you cannot find from TV actors.
Kitty I hope your career flourishes. Musicals.. well Singing in the rain? Inchworm by Danny Kaye. Music is visceral.. i like to be there As a die hard movie buff i always have supported the theatrically trained. SF is my specialty. Example in movies the day the earth stood still Micheal Rene could say. in the lift of an eyebrow or a turn of the head more than most pop actors today can fit in 10 pages. Reaves tried the remake. And fluffed it. The funny thing is.. say Sam Worthington 'is a stage person' i dont think so.. yet he is totally commited to role' And is outstanding [hehe] The stage is a great thing.. i love it. But today its all being there and computers allow this. sux?
i have not watched tv on my own for probably 2 years now. I do watch many different series but i do not watch tv. I usualy keep up on the internet, with netflix, or with dvd. I do think there is plenty of quality entertainment on television but i don't enjoy taking it laced with advertisement and iffy news stories. I really love htistory, discovery, and national geographic. Lots sitcoms and cartoons as well i just always find myself annoyed with mainstreem media.
I tend to watch particular programmes on TV however, if there is nothing I fancy ... off it goes Too many people automatically both turn it and keep it on regardless. Worse than that, they end up watching drivell and ending up being brain damaged
I only watch public tv that is free, educational and free of advertising. I spend more time reading, listening to music, playing guitar and going outside...I would have a hard time letting my mind be passive for so long as to sit and watch it for hours on end.
