If people can't be selective about what they are watching then that is their fault, not of hypnotizing flickers because they bought theirself a modern tv. Can't you still watch tv on the analog ones by the way?
Yeah but you are drawn into the television show and you watch that, instead of the news, and you have no idea whats going on. And in talking mainly about my generation. Everyone is very close minded and I am the most intelligent of the people I know. And yes you can watch an analog tv but it does not broadcast in analog.
I'm Sure I Posted Somewhere Here Earlier, But To Make An Update, I Have Now Gone Well Over 4 Years Without Watching TV, Even Though This House Has 5 TV's, One Of Which Is A 50 inch Plasma. I'm Starting To Think Iv'e Turned Out A Whole Lot Stranger Than I Originally Envisaged.... Cheers Glen.
We don't watch a lot of TV. I have a few programs set to record on our DVR, but a lot of them get deleted before being viewed. My husband watches sporting events and home improvement shows, but that's about it. Our daughter loves to watch her shows and videos over and over. That's not to say we don't spend quality time with her, but her shows keep her entertained while we do household chores or whatever. Other than that, we do watch the news; mostly for the weather. I think we watch far less television than most. I spend my evenings playing with our daughter, spending time with my husband, playing my guitar, sewing, or catching up with friends. I don't have anything against TV, it's just not how I choose to spend my time.
Mostly, it does. I avoid it, rarely watch it, don't have it at home and if it's something I really want to see, I wait till it comes out on dvd, find it online, or go without. Too much of it and you can wind up with a pretty skewed perception of the world and the people in it. Just observe a heavy tv watcher, you'll see.
Our son recently got a year of "Amazon Prime", part of which gives us access to thousands of videos, movies, shows, etc. It's called "Amazon Prime Instant Videos". We've been going through all of the Star Trek episodes, from the originals, to DS9, to Next Generation, etc. We've also watched many of the "Chef Ramsey" videos, including "Ramsey's Best Kitchen" competition, "The F-Word" (Food), "Hell's Kitchen", etc. There are also many classic movies to choose from, from as far back as the silent era, to the swashbuckling movies of Errol Flynn ("Captain Blood") and Douglas Fairbanks Jr., to Spencer Tracy, Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant, Gene Kelly, Marilyn Monroe,,it goes on and on. Lots of recent movies as well. I think he got it on a free deal, but even so, it only costs around 80 bucks a year. That beats cable TV costs by far. All you need is a good internet connection. It's been so good not watching the typical drivel on TV. I doubt whether we'll ever go back. Also, it makes it more of a "family time together" this way, rather than just randomly watching what's offered on the broadcast/cable channels. Plus, another benefit of having Amazon Prime is free shipping for anything bought from Amazon.
There is no TV in a traveling Carnival. That said, we do enjoy a good flick or two, played on a large screen where patrons can sprawl on the grass and munch on overflowing popcorn from our machines! Ah, summer at the Super Fun Cave.
Hey! I found a great use for mine. I have dish so if you scroll way down there are Sirius raido channels on it. So I ran a wire from my headphone jack to the audio in on my raido and I listen to that.
I try to tell people not to watch t.v because it brainwashes, dumbs you down, and manipulated you. They all look at me like I'm crazy.
Perhaps they have more discipline and are more selective so just not too afraid of being brainwashed or dumbed down. And they're looking at you like you're crazy because they didn't expect you to be afraid for those things?
