From an old hippies perspective: "Reality is a crutch for those who can't handle drugs"..... A bit shallow I must admit...
replace "drugs" with "fantasy", and your getting warmer. reality is diversity. it has no other nature then to be limitlessly diverse. it is not obliged to limit itself to anyone's beleifs, perceptions or imagination. it is an equal opportunity inconvenience that cannot be intimidated by any tyranny, and while it does nothing to prevent their rise, all eventually stumble over it and fall.
Absolute truths that all human beings can relate to: We can be afraid, and we can be happy. We want to avoid pain, and to seek out pleasure. We will die. All of us understand these things on a very primitive level. I think this would be true for most other mammals as well. Of course, these are subjective truths, but from the perspective of all human beings, and so these things are absolutely true as far as we are all concerned. Although it might take time to understand, I'm sure everyone would agree with these things before their experience as a human being is over. Do you speak another language? Language is a tool to express yourself, your emotions, etc. Such truths as I talked about before, can be expressed in any language. All of us understand such things, and so it is logical that in pretty much every language there would have been developed a way to express those things. Or are you simply saying that some things are too complex to express in language? I think I know that one constant you're talking about, but it wouldn't be the only absolute truth when looking at reality as a human being.
hmmmm. not quite. the earth spins, revolves around the sun, the moon has a gravitational pull... things of this nature are absolute truths, no? don't take such a statement to the hippy extreme...
The only truths are love, hate, happiness, and sadness. But I guess another truth is that death begins at birth.
Not too complex to explain. Too simple to explain. I think this thread, and the point I make in it would be rather mute to a person like you. (I mean that as a good thing) This argument of mine is something specifically designed in response to any sort of religious, or even conspiracy theorist type who believes they 'know' what is 'true'. Or generally any person stuck in believing a some 'thing' is truly true. I was hoping to attract a few certain posters in this forum here... but they've not showed.
You're born--you'll do some human stuff--and you'll die. Other than that ,there are approximately 7 billion ways life is looked at and lived--each from a unique perspective. Some perspectives overlap, but life is always bottom line,an individual trip,to be sure. It's rather a short trip, all and all. If you're lucky,it may be pleasant enough.
