Hey Birdie, I've always wondered about this online poker thing. I'm a rather good player... how safe are these online things? How different are they from a real game? (other than the obvious parts of not being able to read people and such). Do they pay out well? Do people just keep on raising the bet on every hand like assholes just to get it up?
Some sites are safe, but I also heard some stories of shady pokersites. Stick with the well-known, big ones and it will be fine. I never had trouble with pay-outs. Playing online is nothing like a real game though, because of the non-contact with other people. Basic rules are the same though and if you play at the higher levels people play more 'sensible' - meaning they dare to fold, they bluff more often and you will get reraised a bit more instead of just being called. People tend to be really aggressive online. Passive agressive play is the most commonly played game and if you play for some time with the same people you know well enough when they bluff, when they try to steal and when they have a real hand. At the $1 tournies expect people to raise and go all in almost every hand. Expect them to call every raise and to raise every hand. At the $50+ tournies I have much more succes because people tend to be more careful and only play about 25% or less of their hands. I prefer to play 6-table NL Hold'em, pretty quick cash and usually lots of fish sign up. Even at the $200+ tournies. In a few months since I improved my play a bit I earned thousands and thousands of dollars. Only downside is the very low dollar against the euro. After conversion I still managed to make enough to be able to travel for many, many years. Or to become an online pro maybe, I have been thinking about that too. God, I love this game!
That sounds beyond badass. I'm about to deposit 10$ at pokerstars, lets see if I can at least double it today.
Awesome. PM me your username on PokerStars and I'll look you up. Do you prefer cash games or SNGs (sit n go tournies)? I play SNGs 99.9% of the time. I don't play much on PS anymore, but if you want to improve your game it's a good site. Many players there are above average and thus harder to beat. The real money is to be made at sites with lots of idiots who don't know what they are doing. Today was a pretty good day again, I made over $500 in about three hours of poker. Although every online player will warn you that there will be times where you lose. Just know when to quit. If you know that, you're halfway there to become a great player.
I'm Jewish and cheap. I also work really hard for my money, so I wouldn't want to loose it, and I'm pretty damn patient. So I think that I can quit at the right time. How do SNGs work? (my username there is bravesirrubi). I think I'd have to register at a different site if this one doesn't allow me to deposit money though. I'm waiting for a representative to talk to me or some shit right now. I'm not too worried about below average players. I wouldn't bluff too much in online playing, especially at lower $ games... and if I don't win with a decent hand, then... oh well.
I don't think anyone is the best, but I do like players like JC Tran, John Juanda and Antonio Esfandiari.
SNGs are Sit N Go's. You sign up at a table and the game starts when a given number of people have signed up. Then the play is tournament style - lose your chips and you are out. I usually play the 6-people SNGs. The game starts when 6 people signed up and the top 2 people win cash. Usually 1 or 2 people go all in pretty quick, so you are left with 4 or 5 and then you can outplay them by 'stealing' many small pots and throw your money in when you have a big hand.
Hmm... does one have to finish the tournament? My biggest problem with this is a shitty internet connection that disconnects every once in a while. I wouldn't want to loose a tournament because of a connection problem... while it seems really easy to leave a cash game. Anyhow... my bank is doing everything it can to not let me deposit any money... which is bullshit.
Yeah, you do have to finish the tournament. So if you have a crappy internet connection it's better to play cash games indeed. Look at your account and you might magically see some money appear on it.
Well, nevermind. There is no way for me to deposit money there. Know any other decent poker sites Birdy?
Yeah, still... damn. Don't send me no money now Birdy, I wouldn't want to own you sexual favours... you might be a little too rough for me. Edit: Well, that's awfully nice of you. Remind me to buy you a beer someday. Now I'm gonna go quickly waste your hard earned money... or maybe I'll transform it into a million dollaaaaars!
ohhh boiiiiiiiiiiiii hit a straight flush on the turn, took out 2 fullhouses...poker stars rules! look me up, 420highqueen
