I would have recommended "Wolf's Rain," my absolute favorite, if you were just looking for a good anime. You said that you are into more of the Samuri animes, however, so I am not sure if you would be interested or not. Despite that, I still suggest you and other anime fans check out the "Wolf's Rain" series if you haven't already.

    Have you tried:
Naruto - Its a ninja series full of action and humor. Of course, the downside is that it has many filler episodes that fans (myself included) don't like that much.

Bleach - a young man is given powers of a death god , this anime is full of sword fights and some humor.

Death Note - A crowd favorite; it is about a young man who gets a notebook where the person who writes his name in it dies, and the brilliant detective out to get him. This is one of my favorites, really. It has a creepy background theme and much mystery to keep you guessing.

Yami no Matsuei - Children of Darkness (if I'm wrong about the translation, somebody correct me please); this anime has death gods (again? yeah!), great animation, dark themes, and cool characters. Um, this anime is known for its shonen-ai/yaoi themes, so if you're not into that, pass this.

Full Metal Alchemist - again, another mainstream anime. Full of action, so try this.

Initial D - If you're into car racing, this anime is a must; its practically a legend!

Gundam Series - Mechas, mechas, and more mechas!

Love studio ghibli stuff, realy good! tho first time i watches spirited away i was realy wasted and spun out and emotional and found it realy upseting, and beuitiful at the same time, now i find the film as a deep meaning with me.

As I luvMorocco has already stated, Naruto is definately a must see. It's funny, quirky and has a fantastic soundtrack. :)

    I would recommend:

    The "El Hazard" series
    Excel Saga
Although older but newly released on DVD "Gunbuster" series.

Yu-gi-oh. Not the over-edited version, but the true Japanese version.

    Detective Conan.

Excel Saga is near identical to crack. I fucking love that show.

If you want something trippy, watch this one movie called "Mind Game". It's not exactly anime-style and...it's just the single absolute weirdest thing I've ever seen.

    Now for some normal anime:
    Fate/Stay Night
Evangelion (this one you'll either love or hate)
    Azumanga Daioh
Aishiteruze Baby (kind of sappy, but it's really good)
    Kasimasi
    The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Lucky Star (although if you haven't watched that much anime yet, this might not be good. Watching the title above this is required, though it has no relation to it whatsoever)

and...that's it for now. People have already mentioned all the good samurai-themed anime (Afro Samurai=awesome), so these are my non-samurai, mostly schoolgirl-related recommendations D:

Everything I would had said already has, except Escaflowne, that one was pretty good, just make sure it's in jap with eng subs, the voices are fairly bad.
