the time i cleaned out my hard drive before the most recent time, i didn't get any antivirus. the plan was to just look at tons of porn and see how long it took to crash. after like seven months of my computer working better than it ever has, i just said fuck it, cleared it all out and started over, downloading free avg again. and like i said in my earlier post, my computer has been acting fucked since then.

I swear between the time I didn't have Norton anymore and I got AntiVir, about a couple hours of being online, I caught like 4 viruses. You don't have to download stuff to get them.. especially Trojans.. and if you get one of those fuckers, say farewell to your hard drive.

i prefer avast over avg. also free, and it seems to catch more stuff than avg does
i also use spybot s&d and adaware for antispyware programs. very useful things those

Don't have one, don't need one. Our router does a good job of blocking out the bugs, so does Firefox. Everyone who uses our computers knows how to avoid viruses anyway. Plus, with our residential computer wiz, there's not a lot he can't fix. Every computer disaster we've ever had was due to hardware failing, not a virus.

I used Norton, which sucks, so now I use Panda. Norton is a bitch removing from your harddrive, too.

Oooh yea I *thought* I had gotten rid of the whole thing but yesterday I saw the the Live Update thing was still installed and when I uninstalled it told me "fatal error" or some dramatic shit like that. Fuck Norton.

yeah, i'm happy without one. i use firefox, which does an excellent job of blocking stuff, and i mostly use the internet at the library where they have an extensive firewall. so extensive i can't download anything, in fact. but it's protective.

i do wanna get a spyware blocker though. maybe this weekend when i have no time to go online, i'll nuke my puter and then i'll put a spyware blocker on, and check out an antivirus. it's worth at least checking out i guess. worst that can happen is i have to nuke again... and it's easier to nuke right after doing it! :D

Yeah, stay the fuck away from IE if you don't have anti-virus software. Because my comp is mildly fucked (nothing a good clean sweep won't fix, just gotta transfer my pictures and music to another harddrive first) ever since I used Internet Explorer to get on MySpace because it was being buggy with Firefox one day. I only have that shit happen when I'm on IE. So, Penny, maybe you should try using a different browser than IE?

Spybot-Search and Destroy and Spyware Blaster seem to be ok.

    I also use Avira.

when i went several months without antivirus i used IE exclusively, and like i said, it ran perfectly for the entire time.

i think my computer just gets off on trying to prove everyone wrong about everything...

I use from five to twelve freeware anti-virus tools, depending on how paranoid I am feeling.

Do you have a virus security alert that goes from green to red?

Norton had a paranoia type of warning. I had one PC that came bundled with Norton. Pop-ups kept coming up every couple minutes warning me that I hadn't updated the virus datafile. I figured out how to turn off the pop-up alerts. Then more Norton pop-ups came up every few minutes warning me that I had turned off the pop-up warnings about needing the updates.

There should be an option in the pop-up 'leave us alone'. :)

A lot of pop-ups on TV now, especially in the U.S. Constantly badgering you by putting stuff on the screen while your trying to watch a show.
