I said that, Photo, because Kitty said her BP was seriously high. High BP is such an insidius disease (rarely any symptoms) and often people don't even know when their BP is rising. As there are other things to do for sinus congestion, I would stick with them, if your BP isn't near normal with treatment. (And maybe even have it taken about 90 minutes after ingestion of sudafed, just to see if it IS efffecting you, IF your doctor really thinks it would be OK for you to take. Me, personally, I'd stay away from it, if I had high BP. (I don''t have high BP, but the stuff still makes me feel like shit.) My mom has had a couple of TIAs (small strokes) and her doc has told her never to take sudafed (and she used to live on it, yuck.) A good doctor, who knows you and your BP situation, and LISTENS to you and your concerns is INVALUABLE! As for acidophilus, I like Nature's Way, enteric coated. I NEVER have an empty stomach, and found the regular too hard to take. And, like Photo also said, most of the noncoated, will be destroyed by your stomach acid. Little kids, however, have less stomach acid than adults, so they seem to do better with non coated acido or bifidus, if they can't take pills.
If her blood pressure is dangerously high, then I absolutely agree, don't touch it. In my opinion, it is okay for a few days if your BP is tightly controlled, though. Maggie, are you familiar with Lactinex Granules (by B-D)? I think they are great for small kids. Most pharmacies carry it in the fridge, you have to ask at the drug counter. What is your opinion on this product?
They ARE dairy based. They are not enteric coated, but if taken on an empty stomach, they do help diahrrea from antibitics, I used to use this product a lot, before I found the health food stores had better stuff. As kids have less stomach acid, it seems to be OK for them, as long as they aren't allergic to dairy, or have a lactose intolerance. I use Nature's Way cherry chewables for babies and little kids in my house, now.
I never realized their was a non-dairy based product available! Thanks for the info, I am going to try to order that!
Have you tried Coricidin HBP? It is made for people with high blood pressure and does not contain psuedoephedrine. I off and on have high blood pressure and I have a heart condition so I have been told not to take any cold medicine with psuedoephedrine. I looked at Walmart on Friday and every OTC cold medicine sold there has psuedoephedrine in it, except for the Coricidin. I tried it, and it did help me. Maybe it will be beneficial for you!
Photo, most of the acidophilus in the health food store are actually carrot based. I guess there is acidophilus in carrots, and it is easy to grow, so it can be cultred. Do you have a Whole Foods around you? They have the nice enteric stuff. Nature's Way is the best (imo) and prices right in the middle.
NO! I LOVE Whole Foods! I went to one in Dallas. One of my customers is an exec for Whole Foods, but for some reason they won't put a store in Richmond, the nearest one is in Charlottesville, about an hour away. It is probably because of the local, family owned, fascist grocery chain, Ukrops, which dominates our grocery market. Wal-Mart or Kroger can barely compete with them. I worked for them for 30 days, and have never set foot in one again! (...but thats for another thread) Thanks again for the info! Carrots! Who Knew?!
