1. The Hipforums announces it first ever fundraiser. After nearly 30 years online, we must ask our members and guests to help support the website. Thanks to years of ongoing financial support of our members, advertisers and volunteer admin staff, we have been able to keep the forums alive.

Now we must ask for help as available funds have all been used for our Internet server and other fees.

So please donate any amount to our PayPal account donate@Hipforum.com to keep the site going. If we can get enough for a few months fees, we won't need to nag you again!

You could also subscribe to the forums and get an upgrade to Supporter or Lifetime Supporter here

I am in my third year at Berry College. (Berry College is the equivalent of an english university in terms of things taught. In America, we go to high school for four years and then go to college (a small public or private school) or a university (a large public school).
My major is history with a concentration on British and American history. I am currently in my fifth week of school. :)

Just had my induction day at UEL (BA Social Work) and now I'm completely disillusioned.

Something about the whole system seems very wrong ... like the rows of people standing there as you walk in, handing out leaflets on everything from political parties and religious causes to cheap gym membership and bank accounts. I'm sure education isn't meant to be so commercial.

At one stage during the induction a lecturer was asked which books he recommended and he gave his own book a plug, saying it was the best one for the course.

I've just started at the University of East Anglia in Norwich doing a science foundation year that hopefully will lead on to a Environmental Science degree. This is after a retake of A Levels (big mistake) and a gap year.
