Eh, ever since I left high school the amount of people that hated nirvana drastically grew past the people that liked him. A sheep would follow the herd, not stick to their own genuine tastes despite the controversy.

I'll ride on you motherfuckers, Ye!

    .....

did I ever say I hated kurt? Did I ever blame him for killing rock?

Pretty sure I've repeatedly said that Kurt was fine, but what he did resulted in a bunch of wannabe bands who destroyed rock. I don't understand why you insist on flipping out to defend someone who wasn't THAT amazing.

    Charlie Parker
    Hallucinogen
    Iron maiden
    Led zeppelin
    Lynard skynard

    Ozzy osbourne
    Underoath
    Testament

It's not so much as defending him as it's about telling the haters to shut the fuck up and let me do my thing without their bitching.

Hmm.. Pretty sure I'm not a "hater" and I was never "bitching"
nor did I critisize nirvana for signing with a major label.

only bringing this up becuase you just called me a dickhead who blames Kurt for signing a record contract.

Na, I'm just helping you rant. I understand that the bullies at school have been making fun of you, and you need to take out your anger on someone.

It's just sad that you have to start threads just so you can spaz out at people from the safety of your computer...

Edit: unless you really do have a crush on a dead guy from the 90s, in which case disregard the above comment.

really? Johnny Cash made his living off E A D.. 3 chords... hell.. i've heard songs that make one repetitive chord sound amazing.. its not a matter of how many chords you use.. takes more than chords to make good music

The point is not litteraly how many chords they used, the point is that the music was talentless shit. Nirvana could pull it off, but the bands that followed could not. I could care less how many chords any band uses, but real skill went "out" and having no talent was suddenly cool. Am I wrong in thinking that music today is increadibly simplistic and weak compared to what it could have been if nirvana was never popular?

(and about Johnny Cash, you know just as well as I do that his style was not meant for crazy solos and complicated rythems. But nirvana can hardly be compared to Johnny Cash.)

personally i just either hear random music from co-workers mp3 players hooked up to the speakers at work.. or i will just randomly download music and listen to it.. i have found some amazing music from just sorting by genre and then downloading random shit... i cannot tell you the last time i really paid attention to what is played on a radio or a tv

oh, ok. I don't know what you mean by tv, but I don't listen to the radio.

That's sorta what I meant by this whole thing, is that the popular music that follows you wherever you go is just a bunch of fads. There arnt many timeless bands floating around any more like zeppelin, sabbath, the who, or pink Floyd. I just always found it weird that you have to look really fuckin hard to find great music anymore, shouldn't it be what's being played all around us?

they too were just "fads" of the time though... i don't think you get it.. GnR was amazing.. they were just another "fad" of my generation... nirvana/grunge was a fad.. sometimes the mainstream gets shitty for awhile.. remember.. disco was the thing for many years..

there is some good music out there right now.. I'm really digging Band Of Horses and Vampire Weekend

PS: not a big indie fan personally.. most of it sounds like bands trying to be Beck.. and i HAAAATE beck

radiohead and tool I think will remain timeless bands. I'm sure there may be a few others as well. Its hard to compare those eras with today because of the Internet spreading music out in different formats and ways.

ight.. I could keep trying to discuss, but I think I'm just gonna let this whole thing go.

Your right, I'm 17 and havnt lived long enough too really see things fall and pick up. As far as I'm concerned, the mainstream music was pretty lame this whole decade, but you could definatly be right and itll pick up sometime soon. From what I can tell, it was the post nirvana 90s that got it on the downward spiral in the first place, but I suppose it would have happened anyway. We're just gonna have to see how it all plays out.

Edit: band of horses is awsome

    Hm. Fair enough.

I was a defender of them for a little when the backlash started. Then I decided to download their stuff again and realized I hated most of it too =P

The one good thing I do have to say about them is that their cover of 'Lake of Fire' is so good and such a big part of my childhood (Batman Forever soundtrack =P) that I haven't been able to bring myself to listen to the original since learning that it's a cover.
