Having nothing to do with anarchy... I'm a microbiologist, I perform biomedical research, I love what I do, and it would be just about impossible to do what I do if I had not gone to college.

I did not become diverse through education. I met and befriended many amazing people that I would not have met in the little 1000 person town that I lived in. College isn't just "learning", it's living in a communal space. That was awesome. And yes, call me a total sellout for getting a job that I enjoy, that's totally corporate, and makes me not a small amount of money.

At least I plan on getting involved in my new community ( not political ) instead of saying "having a good(sic) job isn't cool, I'm going to quit, get a menial job, and then everyone will think I'm cool. Not because of my actions, or how I feel about things, but because I'm broke."

    different reply to other poster:

True Anarchists would not start wars. They would try to reason with people, and most likely be ridiculed for doing so. So what? You can live in fear of doing the right thing, or you can really live. Pick one.

Thats called vigilanitsm, or how ever you spell it, its a good way to deal with things but sometimes can be un fair and a bit extream
And just how would abolishing the current system help people?, yes the government has it flaws, but it could be worse
    Again vigilatism
well i kind of like having well maitained roads for my car and well clean running water is a nice bonus [IMG]
Yep people tend to gather and socialize, and form orginizations to get things done , Ie Government
I think the misconception here occured when you fell into the honey sweet trap of anarchy and other isms that claim to offer simple solutions for complex problems. The misconceptions of how the media/faceless man in suits/whatever you raging against have decided that you are so important that a complex system of lies and illusions so that It could manipulate every facet of our lives, as well as control the world bank and live underground wiht the mole people.
Well i certainly envy how well the party seems to have organized, and I do understand that anarchism is a cheechy and fun social club for disenfranchised yuppie kids who go dumpster diving and squatting in building, with the safety net of there father's credit card, or the local healthfood store to go to shout and carry signs outside of, i do think that the actual impact outside of flashy rallys is negligeble. I would also like to think that the world is a relativly transparent place, based on those who can using the sweat of others and the lure of selfishness or complantency to forge Leviathans that then devour each other in a Hobbesian dance to the end of History. That seems to me to be pretty clear in the apostles of our Age, in the form of Hobbes, Bacon, Roussoue, Locke, and Nietzche. All the Ideologys all base from the idea of violence coated in the sugary taste of security and natural rights. I accept that and find it to be rather obvious that the goverments are about control of people like herds of cattle. Are you suggesting that Anarchist/Syndicate based lifestyles would lesson that, or perhaps just make that community like the ones in spain in the 1930's, seized by Facist as the world watched.

Jay, all I can say is: Wow.

That was the most articulate, profound cop-out I've ever read. Kudos for also naming a few philosophers. And for mentioning the Spanish Anarchists, who are an example of how to organize, regardless of consequences. Frankly I'm surprised you left out the Paris Commune, and the IWW.

You totally accept "fire and forget" gov't, which involves giving up your power to someone else because you are too unmotivated to deal with your own problems. This, of course, allowing said person to do whatever they want with no consequences to speak of. Then, if they do screw up, you bitch and moan, not at all angry with yourself for being pretty much the basis of the problem.

Do you think maybe it's not coincidence that we work 40 hour weeks expressly to be kept from taking a meaningful part in our communities? "Oh, gee, I work all week, and couldn't make the meeting." This is exactly how gov't (read: fascism) works: Create an excuse for apathy.

    In summation:

Homer : Will you all stop worrying about that stupid comet? It's going to be destroyed. Didn't you hear what that guy in the building said?
Lisa : But Dad, don't you think ...
Homer : Lisa, the whole reason we have elected officials is so we don't have to think all the time. Just like that rain forest scare a few years back. Our officials saw there was a problem and they fixed it, didn't they?
    Lisa : No, Dad, I don't think ...
Homer : There's that word again!
