I used to think The Velvet Underground was from England.. haha like when I was 16. Because I thought wait they cannot NOT be from England.. hehe
:cheers2: Mötley Crüe sucking ass might be the reason. :cheers2: I think I've heard about five songs from them but all are better than anything the Sex Pistols ever made.
england has the best everything. i'm not biased one bit. but yea, we own rock music. especially in the 60s and 70s.
Well I disagree that Englands owns the 60's and 70's. There are some great bands from the U.S and other countries but I'm thinking the U.S particularly from that time. Like The Velvet Underground, the CBGB bands from the late 70's, punk bands.. also proto-punk bands and bands like The Replacements.. R.E.M.. I mean I'm forgetting tons.
Pink Floyd, Led Zepp, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, The Kinks, The Who, The Jam, Beatles, Queen, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes, Genesis, The Clash, Free, Wishbone Ash, King Crimson, the Yardbirds..............the list goes on. anyway, its all personal preference. thats just a list of my favourite bands, who happen to be british and from that era.
i think its a matter of preference,i also think that what has been deemed "the best" and then played on the radio for the last 40 years has had a huge influence over peoples opinions.. needless to say i whole heartedly disagree with the statement..
Well I am a huge fan of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd, The Kinks........ brit pop bands, Radiohead, lots of punk bands.. T.Rex definitely is one of my favorites.. Bowie.. and many many more but as I said I wouldn't say they necessarily aren't just as great bands from other countries.
dont think so........... Glasgow and Leceister....think thats british. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dire_Straits
america does have some great music, i agree totally. i think i probably have a biase to english music......my dad is a bit of a junky for the bands i listened and ive been brought up with that music so it holds paticular greatness with me. ive never had the same exposure to american music. apart from zappa... :cheers2:
Well British people are better than Americans. And foreigners cant speak English Actually , in truth , shit( or poor) places tend to foster the growth of excellent bands.Even Wales produces lots of bands. But I cant ever see New York's Hamptons producing many rock legends... I came from arguably the heavy rock capital of the world.( Led Zepplin's members would be in my local Indian restaurant). It was a rough edged steel place , so people say it was natural for hard edged rock to dominate. Also American bands often seem to be reluctant to mix influences nowadats, unlike British bands. Not sure if thats a good thing.
Also the "corporatisation" of music , that started in LA is a disease. I saw this new US rock band on TV.To launch a new album they hired a big room in a 5 star LA hotel with quote " a select number of opinion formers in the music media" ie 70 or so corporate suits in a room that prob held 700. The atmosphere just looked ridiculously non-existent. But maybe with a bit of mutual back scratching , the band got rave reviews. And the guests went away happy ( coke and hookers , me thinks...)
Why? because they are rich and privelaged? I think many rock bands were/are headed or populated with rich kids? Most of the bands mentioned here have rich kids in them.
Exactly , rough edged places where music is a dream means that people are more creative. All those Manc bands could epitomise that era. Missed out on the 80s loadsamoney stuff of down south.Cos their lives were defined by E's , trips , beer and scally stuff cos of bugger all money.
