I'd say it was your attitude about your dreads that hindered your job prospects, not the dreads themselves.
I agree. If you make a good enough impression on anyone (even employers) then they will look past the dreads
i recently turned down a job because they said i would have to tie my dreads back and put gel in them and take out my facial piercings i was like...nah...
Yep. Only time they will probly bug you is if it's a safety hazard or policy violation or something along those lines
Yeah, when I was a civil servant they made me tie them back but my last job, which was advising people on anything and everything I wore my hair how I wanted.
dunno, the job I want is as a intake specialist for the Family Services Department of the local Indian tribe, and they said no way. It's an office job. Anyway I'm glad I took them out because they were nasty inside. I'm going to try to get my scalp problems sorted out before I start them again, maybe then they won't get so much buildup/dandruff and shit in them?
Indians have their own rules, and are not above being judgemental. And as far as what was in your hair, I don't know. Sounds like you used something you shouldn't have. i've had dreads twice before, once with wax, once without. The wax dreads hold nasty shit, and those without can hold nasty shit, but usually a good, thorough rinse with ACV cleans those puppies out pretty well.
A good way to fight that is to claim they are part of your religious beliefs. No one will touch that shit.
don't know, my dandruff was pretty bad and I think it was a lot of that, I only used water to wash them for most of the time I had them. but sometimes I used a Kiss my Face soap bar, i think it contributed to the gumminess. I definitely didn't use wax blegh I only tried the ACV rinse once at the very beginning. argh now I want my dreads back! hehehe
