Did an adult force your daughter to disobey you? Or did she make that decision? If you've done your job parenting well, it won't come up. If it does come up you should be blaming yourself.

Adding pedophilia to a discussion of dating-age differences is disingenuous to say the least.

There is no need for a truce between us Chrissy, I wasn't blaming you for anything or telling you that you were in the wrong in any way...

Kids often push the limits of what they can and cannot do... and adults step up and explain why they shouldn't...

And no, I don't expect you to understand what I am saying, or the reason that I am so adamant about this right now... One day, if you ever have kids, you just may come to a whole new understanding...

Although the thread started about age differences, the issue of child/adults came up and is part of the discussion of this.

Adults not putting a stop to a child making advances to them is part of that, which is the same excuse that was used in the example.

As for the first part... If your daughter goes out against your wishes and gets raped by this older guy, are you going to give her shit for disobeying you?

Me? I'd go find the guy, beat him to death, and then help my daughter recover from it and move beyond it to an understanding of how to avoid things like that in the future. And yes, I would blame myself over her.

Now you're adding rape to the discussion?

It's not bad enough to liken dating of teen-agers to the sickness of sex with pre-pubescent children (pedophilia) - now you want to discuss rape in this thread too.

Not cool, Tom. Try gettinng back on topic.

What you seem to see as some great difference, I see as a small step in degree.

They are not random unconnected ideas.

You want to talk about between just adults, then as I said before, what happens between two adults regardless of their age, is their business and nobody elses.

18 year-old Mormon boys pair up with 13 year-old Mormon girls all the time. As do Amish kids. And we'll just stay on 'in America' cultures. They aren't having sex, though - that would be wrong.

Just because you can't deal with it is no reason for you to be shaming them.

There is nothing wrong with them being friends, as I said many many posts ago...

Being friends and dating are not the same thing.

    Seriously?

Are you telling me that you think that every female friend you have is someone you are dating? That they are all your girlfriends?

Age differences suck. I was with this girl, developing a mad crush on her. We had a mutual attraction building. Until she found out that I'm five years older. Then she got turned off, left me wanting another girl I couldn't get with.

The two men I'm getting any attention from now are 22 and 46. One isn't even out of uni and the other has a 17 year old. It's bizarre.

Honestly, I've floated all around the spectrum since I was younger. But I've always been more physically attracted to a slightly older girl.

When I was 18 I dated a 24 year old... And she was more mature then the 26 year old I dated recently at age 21.
But when I was 18 I also dated a 17 year old. Similar experience.

It's more about the mentality and the chemistry. But I'm very "go with the flow."

When I was younger, I was always attracted to older women. Now that I am 44, I am attracted to younger women, in fact, I had a gf for a year who was 11 years younger than me. And at work, there are a lot of sweet young things (18-21 or so) that I find quite attractive, so I have to keep reminding myself that I'm old enough to be their dad...

My mother and father were 30 years apart, my mom was 36, and my father 66 when I was born.

When I first started out with dating, and sexual partners, age really didn't matter that much to me, as long as they were interesting, it still doesn't matter that much to me, but when I first started out my limit was 50, 12 years later, my limit is still 50, why that is, I don't know, but hopefully when I'm 50, my limit will change or I might be SOL lol

I'm dating someone 14 years older. It's all good. We'd been friends for a year or so, admiring each other from afar. We're like the same person, it's eerie. Very much in love. Before this relationship I was quite skeptical of age differences. Not disapproving, but cautious.

I started datin my gf when I was 22 and she was 16. We've been goin out almost a yr now. No complaints from me, or her, longest relationship either of us has had. We're still goin strong, she's moving in with me this weekend. I can't wait. We're totally head over heels in love, so to answer your question age differences dont mean anything, unless its illegal which it aint here haha.
