Hi Snowtigger, I lived in trailers before. They can be nice. They are cheap. So we could buy two or three and hook them up end to end or in a T or X configuration. I don't think it would be cost effective to buy them in North Dakota, because we would need over-size permits to drive them down the highway. We should be able to buy used trailers locally once we agree on a place to get land. In northern AZ we have lots of retired people in Laughlin NV and all the little towns around Kingman and Lake Havasu. So we should be able to get groceries and medical care. I like northern California. All the little towns around Eureka and Arcata are very nice. Southern Oregon near Kalamath Falls is very nice and affordable too.

HI all, Hubby and are 50+ and have been in the process of becoming untethered for a while now. May 1- as in a few days we will officially be full time nomads. We live the idea your idea of creating a true place for people to live and care for one another and the earth! We are in the Florida panhandle now and agree that the government isn't going to do us any favors when/if the shit hits the fan. Hubby is a shade tree carpenter -plumber and all around handy man. I have had a career in the admin field, managed our family farm for a number of years and not afraid to get my hands dirty. We'll be off grid mostly come Monday but will make the occasional stops at free wi-fi locations as we travel so I'll check back in often. We are tent campers- with our car almost loaded and sitting on ready! Let me know what the plan is and if we might be welcome.
    Enjoying the Journey~
    Lin and Steve

Hi Lin and Steve, you are welcome to join us. A few people have indicated interest. All we need to do now is to agree on a place and to jot down by laws for a commune. I've told everyone that I would prefer all members to vote on all issues. That way we would have harmony!

Truckero, Thanks for your reply...sincerely...We dig the idea of getting in on the ground floor of a great cause and one of our long time dreams! The Universe has very loudly and succinctly shown us that NOW IS THE TIME....We may not ever get another chance. Peace and harmony is our goal in all things and just want to be with people who share that belief and have a positive vibe!
I have a legal background from my career days and have done a little freelance writing over the years...I'd be happy to edit /proof read/ or whatever...any particular topics as the bylaws take shape. ..just let us know.

OK cool. Snowtigger sounds serious and there were a few others who might still be serious. Maybe we can get it off the ground soon. Please tell us what state or area you have in mind? Scratcho has always recommended Oregon. Me and Tigger were talking about Arizona. I like Colorado, Northern California and Oregon too! Colorado and Oregon are Democrat states. Arizona is Republican. We should consider the dangers of living in a Republican controlled place.

We've been in the process of down sizing for about 2 months steadily now...we have met SO MANY people who are hungry for the same thing. It seems like everywhere we go there is an awakening- a stirring in peoples spirits to gather together with like minded 'service to others'. We literally could have 5-6 vehicles following us right now- today. We need to take care of some family commitments until mid July or so..after that we are unfettered. We will be In New jersey helping move one of our kids on July 15-16. We'd like to take a trip down through Georgia to the Georgia StoneHenge and maybe spend a day at Andersonville- a civil war POW camp site...Anybody planning on being on the east coast about that time are welcome to join us. After that- West Coast bound..we love Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. We have contacts in Montana that have 18-20 acres of land. They have invited us and any friends to hang a hammock. They are struggling with elder care issues which is preventing them from being able to work their gardens and land. Good people and they need a helping hand I think
Steve and I love the idea of New Mexico or Colorado for the record, but we are excited abouting seeing natures beauty in a lot of PLACES We are flexible. (god it feels good to be able to say that!)..so just let us know what the general consensus is. Truly free spirits we are these days and will meditate daily for direction for us and our hopeful- new tribe! Going to Montgomery Alabama for a few days, tomorrow ... ( we are going to be grandparents and tomorrow we find out if we will have a baby grand daughter or a grandboy!
I'll PM you our cell number and as we stop we will update and check in to see what progress has been made...Im super excited about the opportunity to create something like this....We intend to keep looking until we find our people.
So....putting on my cheerleading hat...come on people we MUST DO THIS> ITS NOT A COINCIDENCE THAT WE ARE ALL HUNGRY FOR THE SAME THING!!!!! Lets TRUST our journey to the UNIVERSE!! We need each other! Even if nobody has any money stashed away, or is a trust fund baby- if you're reading this and thinking "yea BUT..." then be encouraged., neither do we !! But what we lack in fundage we more than make up for in courage and faith, we still have a purpose and a plan. We are still called to be the change the world needs.
ANd even if we dont become a full out co-hab situation, we can at least be friends and chill and ponder all the mysteries of the Universe together! (soap box rant over now sorry)
    Have an awesome Monday kindred!

PS. Steve and i have a very strong belief that every living thing ( and some not living ) are entitled to a Second Life...that might be a cool name for our farm~ just saying :)

    bye for now....L & S

The Second Life Farm sounds good! I have a similar time table. I have to move my daughter to New York City. She just graduated and will be going to her after college job. I take care of my Mom who is very old and has had a stroke. I will do that until my sister returns from Europe in late June. I will be free after that, so let's talk about a location. What I said earlier about a Republican state comes from experience. In liberal states like Oregon, California, and Colorado we can rely on local food banks, medical services for the poor, and reasonable cops instead of hard assed thugs. In Indiana, Mike Pence sent the state police to confiscate voter registrations of 45000 black people who were signed up in a drive. If we start a commune farm in Indiana, we would get raided by the state police. So consider the big picture so we would have less obstruction down the road. I would love to have an true off grid farm with our own water filteration system, solar system, organic garden, and so on!

We could buy land in Mexico in the unrestricted zone which is 32 miles inland from the ocean and 64 miles in from international boarders.

Mexican health care appears to be considerably cheaper too.

But this would all need to be reaserched carefully.

After that healthcare debacle yesterday methinks we gotta look around for a place we can afford to get sick in...

I have been to Mexico. I like Mexico. I don't know much about their healthcare system. I paid into the system all my life right here in the US and expect the government to honor their part of the deal. I do know from experience that the areas of Mexico close to the US border have high crime and violence. In the west next to Arizona it is under control of the Zetas. In the east next to Texas it is under control of the Sinaloa people. I don't think we should mess with their turf. Our health benefits would be a moot point if we do that. There are some nice places near Wickenburg Arizona. I just get a little nerved out by the ultra conservatives in Arizona; otherwise, it is a beautiful state. And there are cheap properties for sale there. Where ever we go, we'll need some safe drinking water. I just put in a filter system where I live now. It's not that tough.

Looks like Wickenburg would have everything we need and home improvement centers around 30 miles away. Not bad. Population over 6000.

I've been there several times. There is good camping around Wickenburg. We had to get our water in town. There are several grocers in town. The library is nice and has free internet. Cell phones were hard to use in the area. There are medical services. There is a miner/prospector festival in March I think. I can't remember the hardware/lumberyard but Phoenix is only 44 miles away. You can get just about anything in Buckeye and Goodyear and the other Phoenix suburbs. I was told Wickenburg is usually 10 or 15 degrees cooler than Phoenix. In the fall and winter months I remember it dropped into the 30s. In March it was 40s during the night.

Hi Mister T, I don't remember but I think months back you told me you had concerns about your health and weight being too little. Anyway, I hope you are feeling better. As for Arizona, I think there are pockets of liberal life there. Examples are Sedona, Flagstaff, and the college towns around Phoenix and Tucson. Sedona is expensive. Wickenburg is reasonable. If I do this I want to spend money where life would be safe and stable.

Tucson does seem to have a shit-ton of cool stuff happening,
*Really* neat finds in the Auto, farm+garden & free sections on Craigslist too.
A friend of mine who passed through the place 10-15 years back said it kind of reminded him of "Portlandia on Steroids" in a way.
So despite what may be happening on a *State level* it doesn't sound like a bad spot if you know how to handle arid climates and dry-climate farming, rain / atmospheric water harvesting etc. and can handle a Dry heat. (Lots of folks say they Hate hot weather, but then they've never been to a desert to appreciate what a low rH can do for it)

Had been looking at a nice 5 acre place just down the road from these Guys but someone beat us to the punch. :(
(Still, NO shortage of Acreage to be found on Zillow.)

Hi There Fritz, You are right about Tucson. It's a beautiful place and has some beautiful mountains just north of town. It has a university so there is some culture. In contrast a place like Kingman would be barren in the cultural activities department. We would have to drive to hear a good lecture or concert or whatever event. The basic idea that I have is getting away from a rigid society that is enforced on others by the Republican party. They just want us to accept Jesus and keep our nose against the grind stone! Life under their Iron heel! Well, if a group of us could come together and get a small place we could ride out the terrible storm of Republican values until we get a good Liberal government.

I'd also been looking at Kingman as well, there *was* (past tense :( ) a 640 sq. acre parcel with a well and power at the road for only $80k

And with at least a decent broadband link of "some form" the need to drive anywhere let alone leave the homestead would be moot unless there was a strong need to interact,,, though with a square mile to play with, maybe construction of a "town hall" to start one's own center for a meeting / opening of the minds center could be an option.

Still need to check Geology down there though in terms of what is actually making up the available bedrock on any parcel s a rule, "toying" with the concept of fused basalt for "megalithic dome" Earthship construction.
Cheap material, a 10kw VAWT turbine should be plenty to drive an arc furnace rigged up as a manually controlled 3d print head in a worst case scenario, or maybe an HHO torch as another option.

Also thinking Basalt rod, being conductive might make a nice, sustainable replacement for the carbon rods used in this lil' gem.

But like I said, (And plenty of DIY rig plans on "Da Googlesmachine")

I like the idea of a town hall/ village square idea. We could have a community campfire there..... Outside.
