I want you/she's so heavy is one of my favorite Beatles songs and that sequence fucking destroyed it. Uncle Sam, man? Come on with that shit. Oh the song says "I want you" and so did that GI poster, what a great idea! The kids will love it, very art nuveu, anti-war is trendy, let's get that demographic!

I'm not saying the Beatles aren't already some ridiculous mainstream band, but typically it's with songs like "It's Getting Better" and honestly, whatever. They have a HUGE catalog.

This movie took a lot of REALLY good songs and fucked em all up in my opinion.

I was thinking about that...I heard some people went stoned and they said it made it better...Although usually it will make anything better!! :)

you mean the beatles are mainstream??? its not like when they first started girls cryed over them like they were the backstreet boys or something. Music is music you dig it or you dont it doesnt matter if its mainstream. Loved the movie, saw it twice. Im a sucker for cheesy musicals with happy endings.

Okay, granted, the Uncle Sam poster was predictable. I'm talking about after that - the whole physical examination sequence, and so forth. And of course it was anti-war. It wasn't anti-war to make a profit. It was anti-war because no one LIKES that the Vietnam war even happened. If the movie's message was "Vietnam was a great idea all around, guys!" I doubt you'd be saying, "Finally, someone going against the grain!"

Just saying that yeah, a lot of things about this movie will make money, but I don't think it's fair to say that everything they did was 100% about money. If it was, someone would have yanked the reins away from Taymor the minute she started talking about masks. Come to think of it, they probably did reel her in a lot, and I would have loved to see a version of this movie where she was allowed to run wild. Probably would have been better. If you want to see Taymor going to fucking town, see Titus.

Oh man, and the Happiness is a Warm Gun bit? Mmm. Salma Hayek can get me addicted to morphine anytime.

This has got me thinking, did people have such strong "They fucked up the Beatles" reactions to I Am Sam? I personally loved the soundtrack for that one.

There is no respect for the Beatles or Jimi Hendrix these days, they are just being sold out compulsively. What can ya do. BLAH

If you have any respect for those people don't see the movie... that was my bad for doing it but at least I didn't pay full price and me and my boyfriend split one ticket so they didn't get that much of my money.. hah

Well honestly I do still wanna see some of the trippy scenes (It was so bad I left in the middle of it) just because I'm interested in the technology... cuz I would like to remake this piece of crap with respect haha

I was watching the clip of "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" on YouTube. The directing looks wild, I totally want to see it for that.

But I mean, talk singing? No no no. Not unless you're Rex Harrison. And I highly doubt you are. [IMG]

Eh, what the hell, I'll run down to Arundel Mills and see it. I love that movie theater anyway!

At least for me, I don't think there is anything wrong with covering the Beatles for a movie, or any artist. Take the life Aquatic for example... the soundtrack was all this guy Sue Jorge playing covers of David Bowie songs.

But the reason there wasn't anything wrong there was because it was done with RESPECT. EVERY character wasn't named something like "Ziggy STardust" or "THe Man Who Sold the World" or cheesy bullshit like that.

There's no need for the constant Beatles pun-a-thon that goes down in this movie it's kind of disrespectful, at least in my opinion.

That's the cheesy hollywold bullshit that should have been left out of the film. Also, the casting for the film is typical nonsense as well. But I won't even go there.

As for the war thing I think you can make a case for the fact that it was totally unnecessary. The "story line" was weak at best and divoid of any real conflict or climax... there was no real reason to go there with I Want You and bring that whole shit into it at all.

Happiness is a Warm gun in a military hospital with scantly clad nurses? WHat the fuck?

I won't get into the whole "more to music" thing, but have any of you actually listened to the singers? They all have great, distinctive voices, and the guitarist in the movie is amazing technically, with a great, smooth stlye.

know who else had great distinctive voices and smooth playing?

    The Beatles!

    :p

It's not necessarily the music that I have a problem with, it's the context in which the music was created and used.

I finally saw it and Sitar, I had the same reaction. It wasnt even just the music, but it was all of my emotions with the music.. all just came out in an explosion. At one point almost threw up because of the intensity. ahhh.... Beautiful music.

Seriously people... it's a movie. Maybe you didn't dig it, fine, whatever. Don't put down the people who did. It wasn't insulting to anyone. Most of you weren't alive when it was going down (and most of the audience of this movie wasn't either, honestly) so it's going to be geared towards another generation... so what? It doesn't ruin the music or disrespect the musicians any more than the Sgt. Pepper movie that the Beegees did. It's a tribute. It was cool. Quit taking it so damn seriously.
