ok, music, depends on what you're in the mood for, so I'm gonna break it down into genre, cause I'm a geek like that :-D. This is just a few, if you want more recomendations, PM me, I'm fairly obsessed, lol. hip hop- Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Erykah Badu, The Roots, Michael Franti, Atmosphere, Guru, rjd2 (I think someone already mentioned), Common, Johnny Five, KRS-One (his new stuff is very religious, beware), Les Nubians, Zap Mama... There's ton's more, but my brother is a hip hop expert, I'll ask him and post more then. Blues- John Mayer trio, muddy waters, Odetta, Robert Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaugh, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Reed, Doctor John, Keb' Mo', Leadbelly, Nina Simone (if no one else, listen to her!!! My current favorite song is "Do I Move You") Mellow (I call it surf music)- Jack Johnson, The Voyces, Ben Harper (especailly the Diamonds On The Inside Album) G. Love, Finley Quaye, The beautiful girls (!!!!), Mason Jennings Indie- Cat Power, Joanna Newsome, Jolie Holland, Devandra Banhart, Sufjan Stevens, Catherine Feeny, Colin Hay Reggae- Groundation, Third World, Bob Marley (duh, lol), Peter Tosh, Toots and the Maytals, Matisyahu, Abdel Wright, Midnite, Vegitation, Steel Pulse OK, so, that's a lot, out of all those, I say check out Nina Simone, The Beautiful Girls, Groundation, Michael Franti, Jolie Holland, and Atmosphere to start with. That's also not even touching Jam Bands, blue grass and classic stuff, like richie havens and all. Sorry, I'm kind of a freak, hehe
