    Sex brings complete clarity.

It's like seeing god... And then sleeping with her.

pfff, ridiculous. i mean, great as a personal choice, but as a nation-wide attempt at birth control? PHAH. i vote for cheap/free condoms and pills with loads of sex ed involved (i mean real education, not just keep your damn knees closed you filthy slut! education)

I think that the government spending billions of dollars on teaching kids abstinence is without a doubt, extreme. It is the parents' (or guardian's) job to instill proper guidance into their own children, not the government's job. However I do realize that many children come from homes where sexual education and encouraging abstinence is simply not discussed, so they learn their information elsewhere, many times much too early in my personal opinion. But is that really the government's concern? I think not.

I honestly believe that far too many kids are engaging in sexual activity entirely too soon in their young lives. I might be a bit old fashioned, but I'm going to try and teach my own children to wait. I'm not naive in the fact that they will actually wait until they are married, but my goal is to try and make sure they realize that they have many, many years ahead of them for sex. Why rush it? Personally I'm glad I held off for as long as I did, I have no regrets. :)

I believe in abstaining until you're ready to have sex, and contraception is one of mankind's crowning acheivements, use it.

Sure, untill the kids are ready to have sex.

But most kids aren't having sex because they feel social pressure to. I don't buy that. 15 year olds have sex because their loins are aflame.

agreed. my advice to my kids(when they are older, they are still toddlers now): wrap it up and preferably be with someone you actually care about.

I think the government is wasting money. Abstaining is a personal choice, no amount of pressure will keep people from having sex.

    yeah :)

the problem for parents is that you don't want your kids to be ashamed of their sexuality and their feelings and want them to make good decisions, but you also worry about pregnancy and stds and broken hearts. the best sex ed, in my opinion, is knowledge of the subject + good advice on relationships.

telling young people to just not have sex seems lazy to me.

Good advice on relationships is key. It's not hard to teach kids about condoms and birth control. Relationship advice might be a bit harder to impart.

Statistically, people who have agreed to abstinence don't wait until marriage (around 85%) and are less likely to use birth control.

That's because they are idiots. Not because they ended up having sex, but because they are less likely to use birth control.

For personal choice I feel that absitnence is a wonderful thing. It allows me to stop my desire, control my emotions and attachment to pleasure, and put into perspective what my lifestlye is and where it is going. I was before, a very confused person sexually, I didnt know if it was right for me. But I've since put my head together and discovered what it is all about for myself and am very happy that I abstained from sexual activity long enough to find where my heart is and allow that to rule rather than my temporary sense gratification.
