I know they never intended a strong central government, but I respect the right of the winners to write history, my state was born from the civil war, my southern relatives who are still sore about the civil war aren't sore because of the political reasons, they're sore because they lost, I'm somewhat happy for the black people who get to walk around with somewhat closer to equal rights because the south got pwn't
As a descendent of the Cherokees, I'm going to have to say they paid for, dealed for, and more or less earned my motherfucking ass.
Besides... it's all part of something I like to call same shit, different day politics. Okay, force people into two social groups that hate each other, create balance via that, and pull tricks to make a profit because they're too damn lazy to do their own work... only with growing technology, they no longer have to march up to each other and fire a musket, so they can launder, embezzle, cheat, blast people to hell with Daisycutters and Cruise Missiles etc. and people have no idea what the hell is going on because they use socially pressuring and psychological methods to achieve goals while diverting the attention of the citizens of their country. Stealing people and forcing them into slavery was fuel for the economy just as stealing oil is fuel for the economy... Free labor, free shit... who in their right mind isn't going to jump at the offer? Otherwise, I don't view the stars and bars as a racist symbol... Yes, it is a racist symbol, if you put the definition to the word, but it depends on how you define it. I'm sure most people from the north can't even begin to see or understand things that are done down here, but it represents the region and it is, after all, freedom of speech. Now, I have to say, if people in Germany that lived in a certain area under nazi rule flied that flag, I'm sure they'd catch shit too, but that really didn't represent anything but an ideal... The stars and bars did represent an ideal, but it also represents a region.
The federal government has way too much power than whats good for it. I agreed with the states on every issue accept for slavery.
I think we'd let 'em go. Think how much Colorado River water could be left IN the river! I attended high school in Texas and the mascot was a rebel with a battleflag. I debated for this school, and noticed three other schools using the flag. I thought it was pathetic. Southern Pride? Hmm... loving your state, Ok, but a region that left on the concept of states' rights over slavery (both are correct)? Someone is living in a Gone With the Wind past or a white bedsheet future. "Paki don't get no 'spect in Mathattan, Whitey don't get no 'spect in Atlanta, ****** don't get no 'spect in Nebraska, Spic don't get no 'spect in East LA" (from Respect by Garaj Mahal: Fareed Haque, Kai Eckhardt, Alan Hertz and Eric Levy. Pakistani/Chilean, German/Liberian, a drummer and probably Jewish.)
Hospitality is ignorant? ...Because I would never fly that flag in the name of the Confederacy. Even so...I don't see how you could relate southern culture and Nazi-ism. We're good people, we just happen to have a bad past.
so i've had awhile to think about this (lol) and personally, and i dont fly it by the way, i was not here for the civil war, and i have never met a slave. but now that i think about it, when i see a rebel flag my first initial gut reaction is "hey!! a fellow southerner!!" but then it's automatically overshadowed by thoughts about how many people are gonna bitch and moan about it. so i just say fuck it.
Way to revive a VERY old and dead thread, we have a Lazarus Thread Award candidate here! I think its HOW the flag is displayed as to whether it is tasteful history, racist or just dumb redneck, which I consider to be separate from the other two choices sometimes.
it's part of this country's history.to not to be able to display it is to deny historic events or in lack of knowledge of truth or to be influenced to waiver it.i would guess many flags of many kind wave over homes and government buildings in this country.
