Thanks to all that posted. These are great. Damn, everyone looks so young , what the heck happened. I was 15 in '67, a lot of firsts that year. Hard to believe 44 years have passed LOL
what I missed about being a 1970s hippie was the US was freer back then before the hippies took over and started running the country they said wasn't free.
What a strange comment. Hippies never took over. I wish to God the philosophy had - Love, Peace, personal freedom, anti-militarism, fellowship, trust. There was a dream, for a while. But money talks and money rules in the end. Love of money is not a hippie thing. God bless the movement - I so very much miss it.
Isn't it interesting how often you encounter that attitude ... that the other side "took over". The liberals perceive that the conservatives have overrun our institutions, and the conservatives perceive that the liberals have overrun them. I so hope we can eventually get through this period of extreme polarization.
Politics has become a game of sabotage the other parties ideas without thinking of the people or country they represent. I too would like to see where the two could merge and create a really moving country that the world would want to emulate.
Testify! Ahahaha, and I was just listening to Van singing These Are the Days. I don't know of any other time like the 60s, when that much was compressed into that little time. The scene was so big and so intense. If you were living in a good neighborhood you could walk out the door tripping on a Tuesday morning or whenever and before long you'd be tripping with someone else. But these are pretty amazing times too. The quality and quantity of so many things is improved. Not as much LSD, but oh my goodness, the 2-CE, the 4-AcO-DMT, the DMT, the MXE, etc., etc. and the mj - hold on! And I've been going to some amazing gatherings. So there's not the magnitude of scene, but there is a scene, and a good one!
To all who've posted pics: THANK YOU! These have really brought back memories, most good, some bad, some totally forgotten until now. The world has changed so much, while remaining pretty much the same. I was in rock bands from the early '60's on, lived in SF 1969-1970, now an old fart in Texas. GREAT PICTURES!!!!!
Used to do Laundry in Montreal on the corner of St Dominique and one block north of Sherbrook St. The Krishna's lived close and did laundry on Sundays. Man they had a lot of orange cloth. Often got so drunk we'd forget the laundry and have to go back the next day. Nothing was ever stolen. Good times
