I suggest that if we want to discuss Woodstock, we do it in another thread. This one got off to a bad start.

For most of us, Woodstock is a dream that life could be a lot better if we are successful in making even a few changes in how we live in society.

The real Woodstock was a festival more than 40 years ago hundreds of miles from where most of us live, attended by a tiny fraction of the hippies of the day. I am not saying that to belittle the importance of the event or the importance of the testimony of those who were there, but the ripples from it went out in ever-widening circles and I think the dream is bigger than the event. If the post-Woodstock dream were smaller than the event, then none of it mattered anyway.

Hi I liked the thread in general
    WE1 brought some insight.

    Someone said to you
I re-read everything you wrote and found no argument.

When you are having a polite discussion and someone says
    there is something wrong :(

WE1 says he left the forum because of such behavior
yet he was there, and has something to offer.

Heres another member who felt the thread was ruined

I percieved your as a kind person by your polite nature and wondered what your feelings were about attempts to have your post
turned into a conflict barefoot ?

That's an interesting way of looking at it; no arguments here.

If you can't make any real changes -- fuck it, leave and start a commune =P

I went hiking deep into the hills last year, I pitched my tent next to a river and made a fire, I took a good dose of LSD and sat next to that fire . It was a beautiful trip and the stars filled the sky . I lay back next to that fire late into the night and listened to Neil Young, Bob Dylan and The Woodstock soundtrack and, well it helped me alot .

It didn't matter if I went to Woodstock or not, nothing really matters, just that you are always awakening and that is what Woodstock means, thats what it is about . People may want to say they went and that they knew people that mattered, but they don't and who cares .

The concert and who went, and if it made money or any of that shit means nothing, that is an illusion in time and space, it means nothing .

What matters is the message .

    And here it is .

    Peace .

    HAD A DREAM
    John Sebastian

I had a dream last night
What a lovely dream it was
I dreamed we all were alright
Happy in a land of Oz

    Why did everybody laugh
when I told them my dream
I guess they all were so far
    from that kind of scene
    Feeling mean

I heard a song last night
What a lovely song it was
I thought I´d hum it all night
    Unforgettable because

All of the players were playing together
And all of the heavies were light as a feather
All I remember is a feeling tomorrow
And as I recall the rest will just follow

I had a dream last night
What a lovely dream it was
    dreamed we all were alright
Happy in a land of Oz

I am all about the LSD, I don't know anything, I don't know what is real, but I still keep speaking, because I know it doesn't matter .

I have been all about the LSD for twenty years now , well twenty years of me, whatever that is .

I am in no competition, I wish not to win games .

Many have taken more, many have learn't more, many have lived more and that is their life, not mine, I don't even know if they are they or just more of me .

But LSD engulfed me close to twenty years ago and it has not let go .

God put me here to tend the flame as he has done many others, as he may have done us all, if you even exist, or even if I .

I am no hippy, I need no media definition, I need no look to define me, no preset bag of rules, no snapshot in time .

As George Harrison sang so long ago/yesterday/today/tomorrow/forever "You won't get time to hang your signs on me".

I am me, and I am soaking in LSD, and that suits me to a tea .

The real trip is not in defintions, it is in alienation, be thankful for your freak, you cannot be defined for you will not be a thing until you are a thing no more .

Who are you, who am I, what is real, what is this, who knows what, who is who, what is who, who is what .

It spins endlessly in the most beautiful concentric circles my dear friends, my happy illusions of the mind.

I believe that Woodstock69 was so relivent bc it was the first of it's kind. The Biggest event for that era. For us Hippies it was like a call to arms, a stand up and be counted.

We were 'moved' to attend. It was not advertized but for word of mouth and a small circular. It was a Spiritual Quest for the ones that traveled to be there.

Great Spirit used the promoters to bring our ppl together. Our ppl came by the thousands forom all over the four corners of the earth to celebrate Life. It was our oportunity to channel our energies and send LOVE amd Positive Vibes into the Universe to counter act all the Negitive Vibes from the VN war and gender/racial injustice.

To show we could live in haromny and be brothers and sisters freely under the sky that we all live under. To experience Unity on a large scale. To promote Peace and Love. Yes and to Party and Celebrate Life to it's fullest.

The ones that left were suppose to leave in the grand sceam of things.

That's is why most think it was speacial bc it was. It was the first of it kind and it has never been sucessfully duplicated as is was never ment to be. It was a Statement.

If anyones interested you can use Google Maps Space View to check out the concert site.

Its well marked, even from space. Just go to Bethel New York and you're there.

In the 6th grade, maybe 63 or 64, we had sock hops. one in particular stands out, I was probably 11 or 12. I may have touched a girls left boob.

    Then there was Woodstock.

I find it hard to believe that the organizers of that event, no different than the above mentioned sock hop, ever planned an event that would be still talked about that many years later.

It exploded out of control on it's own inertia, driven by the media of the day, no different than 100,000 kids descending on SF in 67.

It was a perfect storm, thats all.

To those of us who lived the sixties, it may have relevance, for those that didn't , no relevance.

Raves have no relevance to me, they may to folks who attend the events.

To the 30 kids who attended that sock hop, it has relevance

    That is all

    Peace

Fellow Deadhead, you've become too cynical. It wasn't like it is today. It wasn't all about the money.
