I don't take this very lightly if spent a small fortune on plants that are continually destroyed by him due to either asshole arrogant attitudes, or complete jealousy.

I've left the gate wide open so he can do it again, he won't go near it or even look at it.

Now, feel free to google the benefits of fasting your dog once a week, especially a working dog like the GSD.

Also, I fast myself once a week to in exactly the same manner. That's not starving myself, just not eating my set larger meal.

Especially in a working dog like mine there are many benefits to doing this once a month or once a week, so please, do the research before chastising me about how I treat my animals.

Just google it, specifically fasting a German Shepherd and you'll find it absolutely most common to dog owners and breeders.

Now I do this on Friday because we don't exercise on Saturday. That was a personal choice for me, I figured well he doesn't need the energy to burn off on Saturdays so no set meal Friday night.

He still gets the dental chews, he still gets our left overs, pigs ear and whatever, just not a bowl of food is normally give him for dinner.

The following photo is a book I have and is a very good read. Author is an American trainer and breeder, mostly speaks about blood hounds and hunting dogs but also goes into the psychology of all dogs. It was written in the 70s from memory and even in the 70s he states, that at least 70% of domesticated dogs in America were in fact overweight and the same % of owners failed to realize this.

I'd hate to think of what that statistic would be this day and age considering we've gotten worse at looking after ourselves and the number sheer number and volume of dogs that have been bred as pets for people.

Anyway it's in here, this book where I first read about it. I read this book before we got our dog.

Anyhoo this guys training methods are absolutely brutal in comparison and yet not the hardest on your animal at all.

If his dogs would not take to training, he'd starve them of food and water for weeks and it was during this time he realized just how insignificant food and water really was to them. Yes they need food and water, but nowhere in the quantity you might expect. a fantastic read, though mostly outdated in this day and age.

I got this book from my uncle who was training the working lines of GSD, the black ones. I liked it so much I didn't give it back and I think he's forgotten. It's also in this book I learned about the languages of your dog and what they are trying to tell you in their limited expressions of language. I believe he's very accurate with his teachings too.
