Hyzenthlay, I do not believe you actually took the time to deconstruct this film. Kind of a waste of time and brain-power for a film that can be summed up with two words: "Titties" and "Decapitations." Stating that the sub-text is anti-Iranian is asinine because most Americans aren't smart enough or educated enough to know that Persia was located in modern day Iran. Personally, I had a rousing good time watching this film. The visual effects were simply amazing (Hyzenthlay, I also think you failed to notice that the wolf in the film looks pretty much identical to what Frank Miller would draw, so, no, it wasn't realistic, but the point of the exercise was to make the film look like a live action Frank Miller comic). Gerard Butler was appropriately over-the-top, as was his supporting cast, and while some of the dialogue (and there was very little dialogue) was somewhat cheesy, it didn't really matter because the point of the film was to tell as much of the story as possible with pictures. "300" is an ultra-masculine, highly entertaining spectacle, and an amazing achievement in film technique. No one is going to nominate it for Best Picture or anything, but it's certainly the most marketable film to hit theaters in March in a very long time. It isn't as good as Sin City, and it doesn't even begin to approach the depth of last March's banner release, "V for Vendetta," but it's a kick in the ass to watch.
Who gives a fuck what Iran thinks? This is based on historical events. I'm sure Iran has problems with movies depicting Muslims blowing things up in the name of Allah (a historical fact), but they certainly don't have a problem with infidels being beheaded in the name of Allah (another historical fact). Sit down, shut up, pray thrice daily and watch something else.
Could there ever be a better advertisment for a film than to see that The Mullahs of Iran are upset by it ? I mean its better than an objection by The Catholic League! How much did Hollywood pay The Mullahs for their endorsment? The 300 has a video game feel to it with the copper siepta tone and the enhanced physices of the Spartans. It seems dreamy, divorced from reality. The Persians also seem divorced from reality the movie so de-humanizes them as The Enemy, that it also succeeds to de-persian ize them as well. The prominent emmisaries of Darius of Persia seem to look African rather than Persian. Ordinary Persian fighters are masked or veiled. I didn't see any Iranians in The Movie. A good action romp and propaganda piece.
Yes it is definitely a racist prpaganda film. 1. The heroes are always blonde, good looking, strong and blue eyed. 2. The persians here are depicted as ugly, weak, not human, perverted, dark etc. Hence, it feeds on racist conditioning. Just like 'Birth of a nation'. On a seperate note, the 'freemen' in spartan society were a minority. Majority were slaves, foreigners, women etc. without a voice. --- Oh and every nation has a right to have nuclear weapons as a deterrent. Don't know why people have issues with iraq, iran etc. If they wanted to go after al-quada then they would have bombed Saudi Arabia and Paksitan ages ago.
300 was a great movie. I went to see to be to have fun which it was. I like how the shot the movie and made some things over the top. This was not a history movie. The wife liked all the dark haired buff men running around with very little on.
Yup I liked all the dark buff men running round with very little on too! Great watchable movie, but not really a thinking mans movie, basically a graphic novel come to life, and if you take it as that its brilliant, if you are looking for a historical epic, or a pithy polital statement then you are going to be somewhat disappointed! that many six packs on a screen should be outlawed tho, definatly bad for the blood pressure!
I really liked it. The cinematography was great, but there didnt really seem to be a storyline. I loved the transsexual Xerxes who was constantly trying to get Leonitis to "kneel" in front of him. "Kneel before me," "Sorry dude, I don't swing that way," "Oh please? *camp voice* I'll start a war if you dont! *hand flop*"
ha a friend and i were speculating about the amount of jewlery that he had on! We were hopeing that he would fall off the cliff he would have no hope with all that on! i really enjoyed it more than i thought i would!
Yeah. I don't know what was up with the whole 98% naked thing. Hah, it didnt bother me at all though But that Xerxes dude was flippin' scary... "I shall defeat you, Xerxes," "Never! Waaaaaaaaaaaaah," *falls down cliff* "Damn you and my exceedingly camp jewelry......."
The use of slow mo and then fast mo accentuated the power of the blows almost. Do you know what I mean? I don't think they should've used that guy to play Xerxes. I mean, I practically roffled when I saw him. Who the hell would take him seriously? "I am Xerxes and my underpants are really tight! Bow before me,"
haha u are really obsessed with that guy arnt u!!! i no what u mean about the slow mo thing it did make the batte scenes awsome, they do that in a lot of stuff like that cose they do it in gladaitor also! it gives the battle a little something extra i feel!
I haven't seen it. I think the anti-Iran message is definitly implied (if you disagree, pat yourself on the back ) though, from what I understand about it. war is so uncool, and warriors are so banal.
I don't really agree with the anti-Iran movie. It's just a bunch of half naked dudes killing other half naked dudes. Just watch the movie. I don't like violence either really but this was interesting. Lothloz - the kind of slow motion used in this movie was different to what I've seen before. It wasn't the same as Gladiator really..It was kinda like "Prince of Persia: Sands of Times" if you've ever played that.
wiuf - if u havn't seen it then u can't really coment but i dont belive all this anti-iran rubbish thats going around! its just a film about a battle that went on thousands of years ago (or however long it was history aint my strong point) and i am also told a comic book but i don't no anything about that. And like Andy sed they are just half naked men with swords!and lots of jewley! Andy - yes i no prince of persia tis my fav game lol ohhh is it a speedy up thing that happens after time slowed down that u are on about?
What I mean about the slow mo, is that during the slow motion, there is a sort of crescendo toward the blow that is about to come. It sort of builds up power in the movement which is great. It's hard to explain, but I hope you know what I mean. The contrast from the slow mo to the fast motion creates a certain power to the attacks..
lol sorry i am a bit slow myself i kinda get ya now think i will have to watch it when it comes out on dvd and think about what u sed lol!!!
