Being supportive and respectful of the many, many decent men and women in the Armed Forces is not "loving war" or being apologetic for the horrible carnage that occurs. You can support your troops without supporting the war. Millions of people do it everyday. They vote against Bush and openly bash Bush but are quick to send a care package to a soldier in Iraq. This is why Millions of people want our men and women back home, safe with their loved ones...not rotting in some desert hoping that they don't get maimed by an IED. Here's an anthropological lesson for you, Guy(and others who don't seem to grasp the concept), humans have ALWAYS had some sort of military in their tribes/nations/clans/ect.... if even for only self-defense. There have always been wars/squabbles/raids/ect...we have the documentation since the earliest recorded times. Hell, we have cave paintings showing cro-magnon man engaging in combat. It's a reality. Humans can't get along. That's not apologizing, that's stating a biocultural fact. Deal with it. If you are sitting on a computer right now, reading this...you are directly benefitting from a human history chock full of bloodshed, rape, pillaging, and murder. Deal with it. Your are not some saint who's earned the right to judge the billions of warriors and soldiers throughout history who killed and died to create the place you live. You are not some starving, Ethiopian wandering around, kicking stones, and praying for rain. You are probably sitting in a well-built building with the proper temperature, some junk food or tofu, clean water, or booze next to you as you read this. You have that because others were willing to kill and die for you to have it. Deal with it and get over yourselves. The men and women of whatever military is in your country deserve your respect. They are the only ones willing to kill and die for YOU. They are willing to kill and die so that you can sit in your 5 bedroom home in San Francisco or Seattle, drink your soy latte, and smoke your clove cigarettes. Would you kill or die to protect your "right" to organic vegan food? Would you kill or die for your right to stand outside of a KFC wearing only a bikini on behalf of chickens? Would I ever join the military? Hell no. It's not my bag. I'm contributing to my country by raising my kids to be intelligent, productive members of society. However, you will never see me bashing the US Armed Forces but I do keep a nice, shiny, rifle(as the Constitution allows me to) to protect my family and home from invaders of both the foreign and domestic persuasion. If my land was ever invaded, I would fight for it if our troops were unable to do so. Why don't I bash the troops? Because I don't suffer from delusions of grandeur and moral superiority. Only self-righteous, little pricks have that much time in their pathetic lives to be that way. Take breaks from l33t-speaking in chatrooms and rpg to go laugh at the obituaries of fallen Marines. They use their mourning and anger of our soldiers' casualities to intelligently and passionately fuel their own hatred of Bush and his illegal warmongering. No, you're wrong. Those soldiers in Iraq are not putting there asses on the line to protect you. Do you really think that is why Bush sent them there? Thats serious bullshit. IF you think that the soldiers in Iraq are helping your country in any sort of protective sense your far from it. YES al-qaeda are very real. So are the mujahadeen, and the taleban. And YES they hate the west, but they hate the west for how the west has interfeered with them. America has been playing politics in the middle east for a hundred years now. Those people grow up hating america for what america do, inside their nations. And iraq is just another aggrivator, bringing up a new generation of kids who will hate your nation. Do I hate the soldiers? Fuck no. There are plenty of US and UK soldiers out there doing their job. Doing what they are told to do, and actually believe in helping the people. But thats 100 years history they are messing with, not 5 years of terrorist attacks. And yes - there are also corrupt soldiers out there just to shoot a few arabs.
I believe I distinctly said, atleast twice in this thread, that I did not support nor believe in this war. My comments are directed to the asshats that blanket ALL members of the Armed Forces as "baby-killers" and "murderers" that deserve to be executed and/or spit on. Thanks for playing though.
That statement is pure bullshit. No one that I know has ever had that attitude not even during Vietnam. This is a ploy that is used by those wishing to escalate the hostilities and crush any criticism directed towards hostilities/war that is not justified.

Usually they are started by some little tard who smoked some bad weed. The normal, sane, members of the forum would just point and laugh and the thread would die. There have been some serious threads though and the cliched "baby-killers" has been thrown around quite a bit since the first numbers of Iraqi casualties spilled out back in 2002 after three months of war. You must be one of those "asshats" that I was referring to since you are the only one that vehemantly debating this issue with me. Are you that bored?

I have a lot of friends that were vietnam vets... the only ones that spat on them were their government and the VA administration that ruled their problems as not acceptable. They came home and were left to deal with their own problems. Is it going to be different for these vets? You just post one link, and one that really doesn't document the spitting thing. How about you find some Vietnam vets that share your venom.

Ever wonder about the funny looking old men that are homeless....many of them are Vietnam vets that were hung out dry. Try to tell me that public opinion put them there and I will tell you it's the government that put them under bridges not the American public.
Is that what we want for the veterans of this conflict? If you don't do something soon, it will be their conclusion to this conflict. We let the veterans of the last Gulf Conflict battle it out and many of them ended up having defective children and losing their marriages. What support are we actually giving our troops?
Venom?! My first post in that thread was, Don't blame the soldiers that fight the war, blame the government that wages the war! How is that venom? Apparently you haven't read any of that thread yet. I realize it's gotten huge, but it's a fascinating read if you have the time. Another thing I said in it was that incidents of Vietnam vets being spat on were not that common, but when it did happen it created quite an outrage in the media. Yes, in any war there are soldiers who commit war crimes, but to say all soldiers are cut from the same cloth is pure prejudice. And to spit on a soldier without knowing anything about him in inexcusable.
