    Ah, okay. I live in the suburbs, so I've never seen anyone with a gun in my neighbourhood, even though it's Texas... lol.

    Well, technically, they already have dropped a bomb in the U.S., when they were testing them out in New Mexico... lol. But you do have a point - I'm not really sure that they could get away with it. I'm sure they'd try to, though. They would probably say some of the same things they said about Hiroshima and Nagasaki - "It was necessary. We saved lives by using the bomb." Then, they would add in a bunch of new nonsense - "Those rebels were dangerous. They were asking for it. We did it for your own good. We're here to protect you and your families. 9-11! Terrorism!"

    Would the people believe it? I don't know. But as long as the government gives them reason to fear, then there's a good chance that the people will turn to the government for safety, even through wars/bombs/domestic surveillance.

    And now I probably sound kinda like a conspiracy theorist... :p

    If a person is frightened then I say good - wake them up. Guns are NOT something to FEAR, they are to be respected and used as ANY other tool.

    I'm sorry you have a hard time believing me, but I promise you that if you are open minded, which it sounds like you are by the way you talk, and look for yourself at the evidence presented by both sides that you will see many glaring problems with the official 9/11 report. Just for quick reference, you can look this up too, the Clinton/Lewinsky investigation was given 40+ million dollars for their investigation; the 9/11 Commission was given under 5 million. Think about the national relevance and danger of each of those investigations...and now you might see the first link in the chain.

    As far as your last paragraph, it's almost laughable, and I am not trying to be rude, honetly, but think it over: Your argument suggests that either A) We sit here and let the martial law enforcers treat us like the Gestapo or B) That we fight them off with sticks and stones?
    And they won't be using nuclear weapons when they bring martial law to town. Guerilla warfare, hand to hand combat is it...except for the nifty new sound wave emitters....

    I do hope that you will take the time to research this stuff for yourself, because it is happening all around us, and will be in your neighborhood streets sooner than you think.

    13) 1911: Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to

    1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves,
    were rounded up and exterminated.

    14) 1929: Soviet Union established gun

    themselves, were rounded up and exterminated or starved
    to death.

    No! Personaly, I'm honestly happy to live in a country where the people don't feel the need to carry weapons. It's a sad thing really...

    okay look...
    I used to think 911 was an inside job. I hate what our govermnent is doing to us, I hate how the executive branch apparently can just dismiss congress and the constitution in many cases if they feel "its the right thing to do." I hate that the last 2 elections were rigged. I hate special interest. I hate all the same stuff you do, and Im not oblivious to it. As far as 911, now I tend to think that the government knew it was going to happen and didn't do anything to stop it, sort of a matter of convenience but not an inside job, because that just seems too far fetched...I wouldn't put it past Bush and his crew (maybe hes teamed up with bin laden and theyre both playing the whole world for fools) but I don't think thats how it went down...
    But my point is this...There is no way that a radical group of gun owners is going to form a militia and overthrow the US government. Even if you did manage to succeed in a coup, how would you peice the nation back together??
    In the mean time, before martial law happens, people are being murdered by gunshot by people who should have never had a weapon to begin with.
    I don't take the position that NO ONE should be allowed to have a weapon, but I do think that there should be reasonable gun control. Serious background checks, limits on what you can have/carry, serious criminal penalties if one of your kids gets a hold of your weapon, and also I think its a little rediculous to be able to get your hands on a civilian AK (I hope thats what you have!) or a silencer or sniper rifle or something like that.
    Okay, sorry for playing partisan politics but there is no republican that doesn't seem like a slimy sleezball to me. Many of the dems do as well. But you have to realize that we've just suffered through 2 terms of the worst executive office in the history of this nation. Once thats over, things are going to change, and Im going to do my part to see that it change happens. Stocking up on semi automatic weapons will not be part of my mission for change.

    I just moved back to the states from the UK...Police don't even carry guns over there!! and guess what, VIOLENT CRIME HAS GONE DOWN....We don't live in Turkey, or Russia buddy. No one is getting away with genocide in the US, don't kid yourself.

    At first I was just gonna cover this reply with nothing but laughing faces, but after about 3 minutes staring at this single line you wrote, I no longer found it funny - it's really quite sad.

    You're examples are kind of out of date bro. Of course I know American history, thats not the point...modern day weaponry have changed things a bit my friend. You're talking about civilian weapons and small manpower vs automatic rifles, bombs, tanks, not to mention youll be outnumbered at least 1000 to 1...a little absurd if you ask me.
    And yes, wrong forum to post this on.

    Whoa man this is definently one of them touchy topics. K7 I like your ideas man. Even tho' I disagree with being able to carry guns I definently understand where you're comin' from. In the long run I think that until such time as guns or other armaments are no longer necessary we should carry them. I mean if someone where breakin' into my house I'd probly shoot them dead on the spot but in the future I hope that we'll have peace enough where such things'll no longer be needed.

    Let me try to re address this from another perspective.

    I hate violence. I have been in 1 fight in my life that lasted about 6 seconds. Someone, who I thought up till that moment, was a friend of mine, reached around my throat with one arm from behind. After trying for a second to figure out if he was gonna let go cause he was joking around with me and also realizing that I was scared shitless cause I couldn't breath and I could feel my pipe being crushed, I grabbed his head with my left hand, pulled it forward and head butted him from behind, busting his nose. I looked to see if was going to advance...he didn't, and I walked away.

    I've had many moments where I've been threatened or "pidgeon chested," I've even walked away backwards a couple times with my hand on my pocket knife...but I've always walked away. Pop always told me, "Walk away from a fight anytime you can. There's no reason to get hurt. Besides, after you beat the crap out of each other you're still gonna be pissed off at each other and nothing's changed except now you're in pain. - But, if you can't walk away, if they won't let you, you find the biggest weapon you can and you don't put it down until he is down."

    Hatred, prejudice, bigotry, selfishness, and violence will always be a part of human nature on some level in some form because it will always exist in some people and thus among some group.

    It is because of those people that situations escalate. Back in the 50's a gang member was a badass if he had a switchblade. Today, entry level wanna-be gang punks carry a gun at 10 years old.

    I am certainly not advocating violence. I am not telling people to go run around and shoot their guns; there's no reason for them to. But when some asshole thief breaks into their home, or some kidnapper, or some random murderer, or child molestor, whatever, I am telling everyone that their right is to have a TOOL that will defend them in such times.

    I am a parent, and a husband. I guarantee that if I thought any of their lives were in jeopardy for even a split second, I would destroy whatever that danger was before anyone moved a foot. And I know the same goes for any other member of a loving family.

    I'll say it again, a gun is a tool, to be used when, and only when, there is a specific need, a specific purpose for it. I don't use a hammer to saw planks of wood, and I don't use a gun for drilling holes. I keep it, and have thankfully never had to use it, for self defense.

    It is the right of every American to defend themselves, their property, other people, and their country, against assailants.

    Well spoken man. I agree wholeheartedly on all except for one thing. Violence, hatred, bigotry an' all those other things won't always be a part of human nature because things must evolve. An' if a person who saw how these things were in his/her past life is reincarnated into a higher position of power then he/she would see the threat an' begin operations to destroy said threat. Eventually the good side of man will win out. We were born into this earth as good natured loving children, one day we'll find a way to carry that nature into adulthood.

    Guns are 22 times more likely to be used in homicides, suicides, and unintentional shootings than they are to be used in self-defense.

    Households with guns have homicide rates three times higher than households without guns.

    One study "found that home security measures and locks had little effect on the risk of home homicide."

    Another study found that "guns in the home were used far more often to intimidate and frighten family members than to protect against intruders," and that "other weapons, such as baseball bats, clubs, and knives, were used far more often for protection than guns."

    In "1999, according to the FBI's Uniform Crime Report, there were only 154 justifiable homicides committed by private citizens with a firearm compared with a total of 8,259 firearm murders in the United States."

    fact of the matter is, I haven't taken enough time to disect the statistics here, so I can't comment either way on most of what you've posted...What I can tell you is that I have been shot at numerous times, I have many friends who have been shot, some who have died as a result. I lived in a bad neighbordhood where drive bys were common. One of my best friends was shot down with a stray bullet when he was 8 years old walking home from school. My other friend was in the wrong part of town and got shot in the twice in the face...hes still alive but hes not the same person anymore, can't even speak hardly. Im just lucky that I never was actually hit...
    So yea, I have some bias, but in my neighborhood either you hate guns or you shoot people...And their are many neighborhoods like that, especially in Los Angeles.
    I know for a fact that the people who shot at me and my friends are actually scared, and would never engage in 1 on 1 combat with me...Theyre mostly young gangsters trying to prove something. But guns are so easy to get a hold of, that any old kid trying to prove something to his friends can get one and shoot to kill...I don't think its right. Thats my stance

    In a nutshell, I like the "protest" idea that started this discussion. And I had no problem understanding what it was all about. I AM a hippy. I WANT nonviolence badly. But I also want the government to STAY THE HELL OUT OF MY PRIVACY! I absolutely do not support the "police state" mentality which would BAN guns altogether. I believe MOST people are smart enough to decide for themselves what is right and wrong. No, I don't believe that we can defeat the government's evil bullshit with weapons. But if there were an actual REAL attack on American soil (don't even mention 9-11!) by a HOSTILE other country (which would be understandable), things would become pretty CRAZY here at home, and you might wish you had a gun to defend things like your space, your family, and your supplies from other AMERICANS who would like to take them from you...

    I have always run from a fight. I don't believe in fighting unless it's a matter of life and death. But then I do. I can't even bring myself to kill for food. But I bet I could if I were starving. And even tho I wish with all my heart for a peaceful world, if there were a violent revolution in this country, or a serious on-the-ground attack, I bet I could slit a few throats if necessary.

    And that's all I have to say about that.
