Thanks Yellowcab. When you get an inkling as to when, PM me so that I can give you my phone #, otherwise there's no telling when or if we make contact. My internet time has been sketchy, at best, as you've probably noticed.
I'll shake anyone's hand and try and give them an idea about how wonderful the great state of Arizona and this particular lifestyle can be. However...whether a person gets the grand tour or the economy version certainly depends upon personality, attitude and such. Here's some pics from the grand tour I gave a guy that I had known for about two years from another forum. Great dude. Had worked in a Michigan GM factory all his life, but was willing to try anything. Even instant coffee made with cold water in the middle of winter. The 5 day trip changed his life and gave him a lot of insight into what he was capable of doing. First day we drove from Wickenberg to Stanton to do some prospecting. Poor guy is trying to get a connection with his wireless card in an area that you can barely get an analog cell phone call through. At one point he actually stood on the roof of the minivan.
Fourth Day. A trip over the pass in the Bradshaws to Prescott. Then the trip over Mingus Mountain from Prescott to the Verde Valley.
Back in the late Sixties I lived in NYC. Lower East Side. I LOVED it and couldn't imagine leaving. You're right about things changing in 40 years. Now I couldn't imagine visiting NYC, much less living there. Oh well...different strokes...
you are the coolest man ever. i mean that. i've been fascinated with the 'gypsy' way of life and have read only books so far, i've been stagnant for a while due to circumstances beyond my control, but now all that's sort of over and im putting my traveling shoes back on. this time for a longer period. i have to come back later this year, but never gonna hang up my wings indefinetly. someday going to get RV. happy new decade. =) @
"If you can't live in the place you love - Love the place you live in" Every once and again, I visit a city - then all I need is to know how to escape in time. There's always something to love.
I just read through this entire thread, and greatly enjoyed it. I'm very impressed that you could get away from society like this TwoDogs. I don't believe I would be satisfied living this lifestyle, but it really is amazing to read about it. I hope that during some summer, I will take a vehicle and just go somewhere and everywhere. I'm so happy for you, that you found something that you love. I hope that many others can find their way just as you have. Those racing rocks are amazing! I never knew about them; the world is so amazing. All the best TwoDogs, I hope that you can continue living your life comfortably and happily.
21 years, thats crazy ! my dream is to deck out a small camper and live in it going across country. Very similar dream man.
Coolest man ever? Awwwww shucks... Thanks for the kind words. Good luck with your new travels. There's a lot of wonderful things, places and people in this sometimes very dark world. Happy New Decade to you too.
Cities do have their place...at least 100 miles from me. There is good everywhere, though, if you take the time to look.
I'm glad that you enjoyed the thread. It's been fun participating. I too hope that you're able to test drive the gypsy lifestyle. Thanks for the well wishes.
