  2. Seems like this was on display when Obama was elected. Granted, it took a lot of white voters to get him into the white house, both times. The rest of the white votes went to McCain (and a lot of republicans stayed home rather than vote for McCain). Black voters were easier to count since 95% of them voted for Obama.

And Obama had very little in common with most black Americans. While he looked the part, his lineage was a stark contrast to that of most black Americans who carry slave lineage. What's more likely in Obama's case is that his ancestors sold people into slavery. On BOTH sides of his family.

So Storm is not wrong about this.

do you think so? I can't remember that far back; partly because I wasn't paying attention. More recently though, McCain was thought of in the utmost high regard; for his service in the Navy, and likely for the way he conducted himself as a senator.

I thought he was ok; though I don't endorse his party. He seemed like a near the center aisle kind of senator.

How so? First I've heard of it; unless I actually heard it before and am forgetting. He was a POW, right? For five years?

Can you, or anyone else please explain what was particularly bad about John McCain? I thought that politically he was one of the good ones... :(

  12. In 2007 McCain was not very popular on either side. He became known for crossing the aisle, but it was usually to pander for something else he wanted. He was a deal maker, but usually in a covert manner. When I was in the Navy the story of the Forestall fire was beaten into us during boot camp. Not only because the pilot was the center of focus as to the cause, but how much other naval blundering nearly caused the fire gutting of an aircraft carrier. A floating city with 5,000 people on it.

This was brought out as he became the republican nominee against Obama. And a lot more conclusions were made than what I had learned. Some of it blatantly false, but designed to give anyone who thought they knew what happened to take pause. To sow doubt. Maybe they showed us an angle that stayed classified, but I clearly saw the plume from a missile shoot across the deck and light up an aircraft that was being refueled. So it was NOT McCain attempting a "wet start" to scare the shit out of the deck crew (a move that could have cost him his wings, so unlikely). This was before he was shot down.

There's also speculation that he was in fact guilty of causing the fire and that the command center operators conspired to direct him through a heavily armed return path after a particular mission that caused him to be shot down. It's only plausible because air traffic control was very different then. Radar on combat aircraft didn't cover the whole theater they way they can now. They could only keep from crashing into each other and mountains and such. So their mission path was dictated by navigators and operators back on the carrier. But I don't buy that story so much either because the fight deck crew and the command information center (CIC) crew are worlds apart. It's unlikely they kept a close relationship for planning something like that. There's too many people who would have to be involved. Too much potential for leaks and disciplinary actions. It's more likely the flight deck had one guy mad enough to sabotage McCain's plane. A lone psycho with a wrench.

But that's still a bit far fetched. Land based commands during that time did have officers being shot or fragged by their own troops. But on a ship, the guilty would be easy to sort out quickly.

As a senator McCain was barely a republican, I sure didn't vote for him. I voted for Obama, because he wasn't the usual Washington elite and because he wasted the Clintons in the primaries, using their own 1990s playbook against them. It was brilliant. Unfortunately, it was choreographed theater, like most of his administration.

The "Cuban dominant Miami neighborhood" tends to be militantly. notoriously right wing, by virtue of the influence of wealthy Cuban refugees from Castro's Commie revolution--ergo Marco Rubio. Your point is? So you'd rather have four more years of Trump?

Lol. Well, there are lots of republicans and they aren't all the Trump-aligned maniacs that are roaming the neighborhoods. And though I don't agree with them politically, I'm not going to say they are all "bad" people. I think McCain had a good head on his shoulders, which is why I asked. Thank you for replying! :)
