I haven't seen anyone say they have it.
It's been noted that Quark hasn't posted since he was about to leave China.

No, I only know 1 person so far 'irl' who had it. She is out of the hospital, but so weak she can't walk anymore atm. Likely will make a full recovery after a long time (but not certain yet). A woman in her sixties btw.

Things like dairy, one group of farmers have contracts with supermarkets to produce the cheap crap, another set have contracts to supply the restaurants and cafes with better quality stuff

They are all shut down or only doing 20% of their previous business, sends that 2nd group of dairy farmers bankrupt pretty quickly

Total demand is still the same though, maybe even more if people drink more coffee/milk whilst bored at home

There is just a lag there of a couple months we are not up to yet, only started going into lock down early March, won't see the full effect of milk shortages until about May

Rice and Palm sugar are a bit more of a worry though, all the top rice producers are also the top palm sugar producers, India, Indonesia, Phillipines, Thailand....a lot of which have either halted production or have banned exports as rice is the easiest and cheapest way to feed their populations

Rest of the world is going to run out of rice pretty soon, as well as it's by products; cereals, vitamins, a lot of medicines, noodles, thickening agents for bread

Palm sugar is one of those base ingredients that's in just about everything; from lipstick and cosmetics, shampoo to ice cream, pizza bases, toothpaste, sunblock

    That post is largely unintelligible

But why a lot of kids might die; starvation, civil unrest, domestic violence, trafficking

Seems like some might have to adjust their diet a little. More local produce for one. If a society is not completely retardedly organised this could actually have at least one positive effect! :)

Just purely on the economic front:

A lot of people have the image of the IMF (International Monetary Fund) as this magical entity that might be able to bail out everyone....because in the past it has bailed out the likes of Greece when needed. It is big enough to bail out one country at a time, but it's nowhere near big enough to bail out several first world nations concurrently. The organization only has around $US 1 trillion in its own assets.

    Outside that, besides land and a countries infrastructure (airports at the moment are worthless) how much each countries wealth has can be measures by three things;

    1. Size of foreign exchange and commodity reserves (oil, gold)

    2. State / Central Bank owned wealth funds

    3. Non state owned banks wealth funds

Lists of countries foreign exchange reserves and the size of state owned wealth funds

List of countries by sovereign wealth funds - Wikipedia

List of countries by foreign-exchange reserves - Wikipedia

A lot of you might have heard about Norway's massive public owned wealth fund, but not heard of Singapore's, it has a state wealth fund almost the same size

USA, Norway, Singapore are really the only three countries in the world that can afford to go into lockdown for 3 months without getting heavily in to debt

China has sizeable reserves, but none of it is commodities and they own too much of everyone's elses debt. Most of their food production is for domestic purposes though

If you look down those lists, you will see most countries have already committed to corona virus packages about the same amount as their entire reserves

In the coming 3-6 months, all the value of those commodities changes, rice and food, a lot more valuable than cash, oil or gold

If, during that period the middle east or anyone else says to Thailand, we will give you trillions in cash, or millions of barrels of oil for all you rice and bananas. Thailand will be like, what the fuck we going to do with all that? Whilst rice is the most important and valuable thing on the planet

Even if bat virus fizzles out in the next month, we are in for a totally different world economy where food, medicine and the internet are the only things that matter for 3 to 6 months until food production gets back to the way it was

Then another very different world economy after 6 months, I wouldn't even try to guess what that's going to look like

No, just you and those twits in the Donald Trump thread, who are all retired so don't really give a shit who just lost their job anyway, or really gave a shit about anyone else anyway, partisan for the most part because they think their welfare payments increase under Democrat administrations

Can't really trust Boomers to be objective from now on. And I don't think we will be able to trust Europeans from now on either, you are all going to believe lockdowns won the viral war for you. Much the same way as Russia actually won WW2 for you but no one ever admits it

I'm not a doctor but yes, as far as I understand. Most of the people who die are in vulnerable groups, and what's killing them are pneumonia and acute respiratory distress.

Caused by COVID-19, so it's probably not an important distinction for you and me.

Sounds like many people are currently suffering cabin fever.

It will be interesting to see what happens once restrictions are lifted. Whilst I’d love to see a V-day like parade, hopefully people are sensible.
    So many questions.
Will we ever get a vaccine?
How long will the social isolation be for?
    How many will ultimately die?
How many will be seriously sick before recovering?
How many will suffer a mild illness or even be asymptomatic?
What will the long term health effects be on survivors?
What will be the state of the world’s mental health in say another two months?

Yes, I understand it provokes an emotive reaction, of the worst kind. But that still doesn't mean the question can't be asked

A real pandemic, we would have been talking deaths in the 10s of millions by now. So who exactly was it that lead us down this path, to this point?
