No discussion on gun control is necessary. The 2nd Amendment is clear, the Supreme Court has ruled that it is an individual right and we have plenty of gun laws already. Time to enforce the laws we already have as some on here are suggesting.

Birth control and border control, not gun control.

The right to bear arms for a 'well-regulated' militia - at the time this was legislated the US didn't have a standing army and so it was necessary for citizens of the aforesaid miltia to bear arms.

    It is outdated legislation.

Some facts worldwide inc. US gun ownership of 89% compared with 6 - 35% in the majority of Western countries.

Round here, most all firearm murders are with handguns, not the assault rifle.

the handguns are illegaly obtained and not registered, smuggled in from other States.

In this instance, the assault rifle ban has a large measure of posturing to it.

We are looking to Republicans in the New York State Assembly to get on board with the legalization of small amounts of pot, so that the Stop & Question & Frisk will not be viewed as so intrusive & hostile. LEO's are compelled to file charges for small amounts even tho they are looking for pistols, not weed.

You need to re-read the Constitution with a better understanding of the English language. It is does not say that the right to bear arms is solely for a well regulated militia. Instead, the well regulated militia part is an informative clause. It is saying that because a well regulated is vital to maintain a free state, the people (ie every individual) have the right to own firearms. It does not say that someone needs to be in a well regulated militia (though every male, ages 18-45, is in "the militia" according to US legal code) in order to have firearms.

indeed anyone can bear firearms in the US as long as he pass the requirements for permit and it should always be that way!

I agree to a point. I don't think a permit is required on the federal level for every type of firearm. Let the states decide if they want to require one (which is already the case)
