    Wow, pretty harsh.

I've lived in New Jersey most of my life and I can't complain.

Yeah its crowded, and there are alot of douchebags, but I live in the woods so I don't mind the "bad" folks all that much.

Theres a lake a block away, a mountain behind my house for hiking & biking, and if I feel like going ona roadtrip I'll go to the shore or up to PA to check that out.

Lighten up. Its a good state. The taxes suck though...

i'm from jersey.. i live about a mile from the beach, which is nice.
in the summer, it is ridiculous though.
i ride my bike to the beach, & the entire way down is horrible traffic, luckliely i ride my bike, because if not, i'd have to park at my house anyway because there's so many cars there.
the whole beach is filled with guidos and their girls, & they completely take over the point pleasant boardwalk!
jersey has the beach & mountains, which is the good.
i can't really say anything else good about it, because i can't think of anything.

ahh, jersey. you're right about mostly everything about it, but you have to love simple summers on the jersey shore.

i hate that you cant ever make a left hand fucking turn! you have to drive for like 10 miles to get to a store on the other side of the street because there's "no left turn" at every stoplight.
i like jersey for the most part. people there are assholes but once you get to know them they can be your best friend. there's just something about a jersey girl that is unmistakable, they dont take shit from anyone.

I've driven through various parts of Jersey, turnpike, northern Jersey... I know a few nice people from there, but the rest of the people I had contact with were complete assholes, and I'm sorry, but it's retarded that in certain parts, you can't make a left turn at a light- you have to go into one of those weird right-hand question mark things? Fuck that noise... It makes sense to make a left-hand turn, you have to get into the right lane? NO. Weird.

pfft. Try South Jersey. (with the exception of Camden, Salem, Bridgeton, and Atlantic City) it's pretty nice.

Grew up here. Left. Came back. Jersey has lots of beautiful towns and places set back from the major corridors (80, 95, etc). It's true, the building never stops.

The state government routinely rallies around social and environmental causes, but only to pull in new revenue which they can siphon off to enrich themselves and their friends.

If you're willing to travel a little bit, and explore a lot, you can get far enough outta Dodge on the weekends to really appreciate the "Garden State."

Watch out for the cancer alleys though. You can see a map on the NJ Health Dept. website that indicates what cancers are prevalent, and what toxins may be related. If you smoke or eat a lot of red meat, you're doing more to develop cancer than people who live in the hot zones, so don't be too hard on NJ for that. Even so, an ounce of prevention...

I wouldn't move out of NJ if I could afford to live elsewhere in NJ. But we're probably leaving in a few years.

    Good question.

Well i have lived in north jersey my whole life, jersey city to be exact. Up until a year ago, i loved jersey. Sure it wasnt perfect, but it was us and we were used to it. Now its total crap. The cops here on a rampage, ive driven 7 years without any problems and now i cant seem to not get in trouble. THings have changed and not for the better. They basically are trying to kick everyone the hell out and leave only the yuppies who can afford the outrageousness of this state. Certain parts of south and central jersey are very nice but who can afford it?

New jersey is about status. You'll either love it or hate it depending on how much of the corruption your involved in. I thought Jersey was great till i left and came back and saw just how retarded and corrupt things are here, obviously though it isn't a New Jersey thing, quality of life and governments have changed life as we new it. New Jersey used to belong to us, now its just another politically corrupt business. In all fairness there just trying to fix the problems they created while simultaneously creating new ones.Cause and effect

I have to say.. I have live in Jersey most of my life. And I find from living the other places I have lived that the entire state is judged based on its neighboring states as well. North Jersey would not be as crowded, traffic ridden, or violent if it weren't next to the most important city in the country, if not the world. South Jersey wouldn't be so packed and dangerous if it weren't so close to Philadelphia. Your major problem areas are suburbs of the major cities. We also hold some of the nicest towns to live in as rated by the same raters that determined Camden is the most dangerous city. Like Moorsetown and Mt. Laurel. We have crazy built up suburbia's and natural areas that you wont find elsewhere like the Pine barrens. But most of all, what New Jersey also has is culture the music scene in Philadelphia is amazing and a lot of those bands are from Jersey, or they know they have to make a tour stop here. The food and restaurants are amazing in our vicinity. The jersey shore is fantastic. Atlantic City has made some mistakes and it is nowhere like it was in its heyday but you don't hear people whining about Las Vegas. As far as politics oh we've had some bad ones but we are talking about issues here on a major city scale with the body of a state. We inherit all the problems of our big cities that touch us but no credit for supplying the good things into those cities. Where do you think people in Camden work? Not in Camden. That smell? Manhattan is an island built on the trash that it made. The leftovers, sent to us. And you know what. I'll take the bad with the good. Vermont is nice to visit but my neighbor is about 50 yards away, not a mile. And I will live other places I'm sure in my life travels but this is my home and I understand it. I hope I won't always have to defend it. I wont if any other states get saddled with this sort of stigma? hmm.

Jersey is a strange place...I go there often and even have friends that live there but everything is so far. The smell is gross(when you first come in over the G.W. Bridge) The place is full of wanna-be wiseguys and girls stuck in the 80's. There are lot's of nice area's in Jersey with beautiful houses and farms, but the urban areas look like NYC in the late 70's (lol). I don't like it at all.

No way! Jersey City rocks! In fact, Jersey City is getting BETTER in the quality of housing and development that's going on recently. Have you even been to the downtown Newport/Pavonia area? I won't knock you about the cop thing, I'm totally with you on that. And yes, the yuppies are infiltrating everything, which is really obnoxious, BUT it's really starting to clean up. Within the next 10 years, Jersey City will be part of the megalopolis that is New York City. I'm still not sure how I feel about that, but what I do know for certain is that I love Jersey City for its culture, diversity, closeness to NYC and of course, even its people. As crappy some stuff is around here, it's still home to my original stomping grounds so I can't knock it and neither should you esp. if you're from here. Whatever happened to some hometown pride? ;)
