I use high gloss polyurethane spray. It seals them really well, because I leave mine in when I shower. They do eventually get a little darker...
220 will be nice, but I'm a little OCD so I sometimes work all the way up to 600, and then even shine down with some cloth before clearcoating.
Have fun. Take it slowly and they'll turn out great. Its a good idea to finish up with some fine grit sandpaper.
