the ties on the ends wont be doing you any favours. they "may" look "neater" but your just hindering the process right there.
dont be afraid of a proper scrub! its may loosen the hair a bit but it will soon re tighten!
dont! you will stop the root from dreading, - render root rubbing useless. undo if you can.
i just used a felting needle to combine all mine (2-3 at a time)- i will post before and after pictures in the week!
why not wash your hair?
they will get frizzy, and they will get frizzier. and looser, and you will worry your ass off, and each time you wash them, they will get even...
i saw them back in 2002 in manchester, it was a GREAT night. i dont really follow them anymore though.
try using a felting needle, you'll have to felt all of your 5 inches into the dread to make sure it stays.

dont worry, they will tighten up, give it time :) you could spray with a sea salt, water and lemon juice combo to tighten them up a bit, but time...
my dreads are just over a month old and i used wax for the first 3 weeks, a mistake i think, i saw major improvement after washing it all out....
just two hours!? i had to sit through seven hours of backcombing, though to be honest the most painful part was paying at the end.
confidence, good attitude and politeness combined with a good cv/set of qualifications and suitable clothing should distract any negative...
