I am guessing you will need vitamin B12 supplements as that is a vital vitamin found in meat. I take them but I tend to be more Flex these days as I occasionally eat white meat . Read meat is a no no .
Oddly enough its a subject than can divide people when it come to opinions when you throw in global warming, animal welfare and health implications .
Lots of people are horrified when they see dogs and cats slaughtered for meat, did you know many parts of the world are just as horrified that you slaughter and eat cows. The cows of India.
Wonders never cease to amaze me... And different cultures with their eating habits is fascinating to observe... and try occasionally. I hold no ill will towards meat eaters... and will smile and eat what I am offered. With thanks to the creator.
Krishna says the animals are the innocents of the earth and we should care for them like our own children.
Roshi Philip Kapleau, a proponent of vegetarianism, once answered a question similar to yours, saying not to worry about quitting meat. The more you practice, you might find meat quitting you. All tremble at violence; life is dear to all. Putting oneself in the place of another, one should not kill nor cause another to kill. What's difficult about preparing and cooking a decent meal which includes meat and vegetables too ???
So Paul you want clean arteries? In that case it is not saturated fat you need to avoid but trans fat that is mainly found in margarine. The other thing to avoid is excess omega -6 as this causes inflammation of the arteries. If you are concerned about animal welfare, you could become a freerangertarian.
Did you see the date I posted this thread? 18 years ago! I have not eaten meat since I started this thread, and I've been vegan for the last 9 years too. I am healthy. I do not need any help, I did not and do not do this for health reason -- health is important, but I am healthy and this is about ethics. This is also not about animal 'welfare' -- there is a massive difference between animal welfare and animal rights. Animal 'welfare' assumes we have a right to commodify animals so long as we treat them well. Animal rights, however, means we recognise animals as individuals that have an interest in their own lives, and that we have no right to enslave, torture, kill or use them for anything in any way -- they do not belong to us, we can live quite well without eating them, and any argument against this is an attempt to justify animal abuse.
Way too much food is packaged regardless of its content -- whether it's a ready meal or a cucumber wrapped in plastic. If you eat food in the west, regardless of your ethics, there's a good chance the packaging is unsustainable.
B12 is produced from the bacteria found in soil which then gets into the food system -- the poorer the soil quality, the lower the B12 content. In the UK, the soil is so poor, and B12 levels are so low that even cattle are supplemented -- so, do you want your vitamins filtered through a cow, or would you rather take them directly?
