got vivid memories of this town..Bergen..we went to the Bryggen part.. on the square(Torget)they sold fresh shrimps on the morning market.. we tasted this of course..not so expensive..Bryggen is the harbour area.. full of old buildings in a typical style..we went into the tourist information.. to find out about visiting Floyen=a funicular cableway upto Mount Floyen.. it's bit over 300m.high above Bergen..and we were lucky..clear sky.. so what a panorama over Bergen..we took the cableway up.. it was a good experience..on the top...there was a restaurant+souvenir shop.. and one could also walk around through marked walking paths.. there are different tracks through the woods..lots of joggers.. a link for Mount Floyen http://www.floibanen.com/default.asp we spent some time up there..and took the funicular back down.. we went to the Bergen railway station to book a train trip to Oslo central.. our holiday was almost over...and to tell you peeps..so will be my travel journal... I'll do maybe 1 more posting...and then finito...I do THANK you all... for reading my journal..maybe it took your time..but anyway.. if anyone of you ever wanna travel somewhere..please sent me a P.M.. Train trip towards Myrdal from Flam..was even more spectacular. we were climbing this time..damn..this is a railway line to remember.. Myrdal..change for Bergen..in the train..we met a Norvegian girl.. who travelled with a dog..a border collie..she was from Bergen.. and thanks to her..we learned some facts about her city.. Bergen in Norway..get LOTS of rain..LOTS..there is a joke about Bergen it says..*if the local Bergen dogs start barking at you??* because you don't hold an umbrella in your hand..you're a bloody tourist... bwaahah.. anyway..it was august..and yes..second day..we got rain reaching Bergen station...we took a cab to Myklebust Pensjionat.. we had booked a 2 nights stay there by phone from Flam.. very clean nice place..bit expensive..but hey..Bergen,you know?? and we got a very nice room..a good breakfast with coffee ? volont?.. this pensionjat was held open by 2 old ladies... they showed us their weaving and spinning tools..they wove luvly designs.. Bergen..is a luvly town, much different then Oslo... I will put 2 postings on this town...let me think..what I remember... Tiger
The ferry for Gudvangen was leaving quite early.. on deck..it was rather chilly in the beginning.. it was a very thrilling experience to see the Aurlandsfjord.. and then get into a side fjord called Naeroyfjord.. this was a very narrow fjord..at a certain point.. the guide told us..that there was a village on the left.. with 3 houses only...so..very thinly populated.. must be luvly..to live there..if you can take the loneliness.. the whole boat trip was very relaxing..it took 2 hours.. it's amazing going through these fjords..such luvly scenery.. http://www.freefoto.com/tag/naeroyfjord in Gudvangen..we went off the ferry...but it was a place.. in the middle of nowhere..nothing to see really.. about 1 hour later..we took the same ferry back to Flam.. all together..it was a very worthwhile excursion.. our last day in Flam..tomorrow..scenic train ride to Myrdal again.. this time climbing..then change train from Myrdal to Bergen... About Flam..I'm gonna put 2 postings..I got much to say about this place.. the train station Myrdal..gets a small side railway line called Flamsbana.. it's about 20kms.descent towards the Aurlandsfjord..spectacular.. all along there are very scenic views..few waterfalls as well..and tourists.. the waterfall Kjoss..is very much photographed..the train stops there for a few minutes...around a place called Nali luvly view..lots of tunnels.. link for this scenic railway http://www.flaamsbana.no/eng/Index.html we reached Flam..and went to the camping..we booked 2 nights.. the Youth hostel is at the camping itself..nice place...kitchen facilities.. so..we went to explore Flam..it's a very small village in fact..the railway station serves as tourist information, post office, restaurant and souvenir shop in the souvenir shop they sell these good warm Norvegian sweaters... not cheap anyway..but good quality..the usual Norvegian troll figures are sold as well..we went to the information office..and rented 2 mountain bikes..because we wanted to cycle around a bit...and also visit a museum about flokllore kind of old houses like an open air museum..it was steep up on a hill...and my wife could not manage it by mountainbike..... we left the bikes at a house inbetween..and collected them back later on.... the museum is located up on a hill..there was a student girl there.. who gave us a good explanation about the buildings..mostly farmhouses.. with very old interior and typical Norvegian designs etc..nice girl she was.. after that we cycled back down to the campsite.. and took a T bone steak in the railway restaurant..not cheap..but O.K..next day.. a ferry boat trip to Gudvangen and back..which I can highly recommend... via Norways smallest fjord=the Naeroyfjord... I'll tell you peeps later about that trip..very nice outing.. Tiger
We took the train from Geilo direction Bergen.. Norvegian trains were bit more luxury compared to Belgian ones.. the trip from Geilo towards Myrdal was marvellous.. first one drives towards a desolate tundra landscape with lots of tunnels.. it was middle august..but still ice to be seen all over around Finse.. this is territory of a glacier called Hardangerjokulen..lots of hikers.. who just wanna walk onto these desolate roads..fresh air,you know?? we reached Myrdal station...and that's the junction for Flam.. that spectacular train ride..I'm gonna do some postings about Flam.. stayed 2 nights at Flam campsite..which also was the Youth hostel location.. a great link from another Norway lover like me.. yes,Tom...I know what you mean.. http://www.photoseek.com/norway.html Tiger
