"A will is a legal document that is prepared with certain formalities and under which you direct what will happen to your property after your death. Your will is effective only upon your death and it can be modified or revoked by you at any time during your life. If you should die without leaving a will, your property will be distributed according to state law and will generally go to your spouse and children or other next of kin."
