My Girl Tree
My Girl Tree There stands in majesty a tree The tree is sometimes feminine for me That she is shy and coy, My love for her grows like the summer heat. Not that I am a fan of old trees And rainforests of tropics, But this one tree has won my love May be b’cause she murmurs in my ears. The tree sags her head to kiss me, But never an unholy and exclusive alliance She welcomes a thousand insects For peaceful co-existence too. Diurnal and nocturnal guests Hers are also my guests The squirrel , the woodpecker , the kingfisher Thousands of ants thrive under her cover The girl tree reminds me the myths Of various cosmogonies and first sin: Eve plucked a fruit in its embryo She committed an original sin, unparalled in history. My girl tree practices family planning She sheds all excess fruits but never immorally All that she does is for her own safety And safety of her many issues for survival. My ‘she tree’ knows the first parents. Sinned against a poor fruit-bearing tree Committing sin against its lineage They forced the neighbour, a tree, to shed tears. Stan Kaka 08-05-09
