they are less than a year old. i don't even do it as much as i used to anyway, it used to be more of an anxious habit. they spend most of their time held back with a cloth hair band these days. i typically only twist in loose hairs now, usually when my hair is still damp after the shower (helps dry the loose hairs to the dread i want them on).

thats why they are always so messy in the last few months pics, ive been wearing a hair band a lot so they aren't sitting in their proper place. dont get me wrong - time is still the number one ingredient.

They're great! i could see twisting helping you a bit, your hair is quite curly. I don't twist myself, although I am AA, because my dreads are all different shapes and sizes (some are flat, etc.) and twisting really doesn't do anything for me.

If you ever get sick of it just get someone to sew in the loosies with a tiny crochet hook! Works perfectly for me, I do it to myself every 6 months or so so I can look clean & professional for my lab job & what not : )

I wore a head band for the first 6-8 months of having my dreads and I think it flattened some of them out, so watch out for that if you care! I personally like the flatties.

yeah once you get to a certain length / size twisting is pretty much useless. its great to help initially form them though if you start from short hair like i did.
crocheting is something i have considered, but have not made a decision on doing yet.

here is an example of a loose hair pack that has been curled around a dread and held in place and is now dreading into it at the root.
sorry it took so long but good ones are hard to get a picture of, but this one is great.
about midway at the bottom you can see it is at a point where it is starting to knot to the dread

i dont know if i mentioned this but twisting them actually stimulates your roots for growth as well

Get that hair out of your face boy! lol, sound like my grandma...Hair's looking good though, still think twisting it probably hindered their development though, looks like the ends are still pretty loose but once they hit a year I'm sure they'll be damn fine.
nice jumper, where'd ya get it?

Right on, how did you like California, what part did you visit? I am nearing my 1 yr anniversary, I can't wait to see your dreads getting longer.

me too i really can't wait until i can tie them up back behind my head - thats why i consider this the ultimate test of patience. it is like 2x longer than it has ever been, though.

Cali was super bomb, I was at Dana Point south of LA

I successfully moved back to the great white north east ^.^
I got sick of messing with hair ties, I finally caved in and bought one of these things (dont judge me). I forgot what they are called. (the hat) :afro:
I dont like wearing it cuz i feel like a hipster :(
I have just been doing a lot of separating to keep them sectioned right..twisting some loosies in here and there.. washing weekly/bi weekly still

They are really getting longer now, the ones on my bangs (fully extended) go all the way down to my chin

i'm having a lot of fun with them

They look awesome in the over video you put up! :D
Don't take offence to this but you look a lot less like a girl in the video...
And also, the glasses look way more "hipster" than the tam! just saying! You're rocking it though :p
